"Midwestern Lake House" Vacation

What are some places to consider when planning something like this?
What the hell do you do for a week?
I driven through a few non-Midwestern places (Lake George, NY and Bear Lake, UT) and thought: "This lake house thing might be okay." I know it's a big deal in the Midwest, and it might be a nice break from a LA summer.
Any way - open to any and all suggestions.

Lake Okoboji (Iowa)
Lake of the Ozarks (Mizzouri)
Lake McConaughy (Nebraska)
You drink, relax, fish, rent a boat/waverunner(s), swim, chill at the beach if they have one, yard games, pick up women, make new friends, throw a party, do some drugs, etc. If you can rent a houseboat, do that.

I'll check with the wife and kid, but I don't think this will fly.
Rest of it sounds like a good time.
Do most of these places have decent restaurants or are you cooking for yourself the whole week?

It's a mix, depends on the lake. Most of the more developed lakes have lakeside restaurants/bars you can boat up to and dock, as well as a regular parking lot. We always like to do both, go out to eat at the local places, as well as cook a good meal where we're staying. Loading up on breakfast stuff for every morning is a good idea because you don't have to go anywhere to eat breakfast when you get up and you can start your day at the house at your own pace and go from there. Getting a lakeside place with a grill is always nice.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but I'd try and do a houseboat rental if possible. That would be the way to go IMO.
We went to lake of the ozarks once as a kid, rented a cabin and fished most days. Did the Ranger tour, etc.
Its probably further than you want to go, but the great lakes have some nice places on the lakes.

Lake Geneva. It will be an issue finding a house rental there however. Great fishing, clear water, great dining.
You could stay on Delavan Lake, or even Lake Como.
There is plenty to do there, both for you, your wife and family.

Open to any and all suggestions. If we have to fly and then rent a car, that's fine.
This is something I'm *not* planning this year, just something to put in my big book of ideas.

Rent a boat named "Suck My Wake."

I hate to promote anything in that godforsaken state but the upper peninsula of Michigan is breathtaking.

Any specific places you'd recommend?

If you want to go NE, I've been to Lake Wallenpaupack in PA. We just stayed at a small inn, but there's houses all around the lake for rent. You can also rent a boat/waverunners. Real pretty country up there in NE Pennsylvania.

If you wanna party - Lake of the Ozarks
If you want a laid back time, on a massive beautiful lake - Table rock

A little closer to Louisiana, I would recommend Beaver Lake in Arkansas, Table Rock in Missouri, or Grand in Oklahoma. All awesome lake spots. It's definitely a fun trip. I would also advise taking as many people as possible. If you have brothers or sisters with kids, make it a family deal. You can get like 15 person cabins for a very reasonable price.

Look up Kelly's Island or Put in Bay in Lake Erie near Sandusky.
