Leaving out of RDU on May 2, returning May 9. Ticketed price was just $420 round trip, but I used Ultimate Rewards points from my new Sapphire Reserve card and only needed about 28k points.

My plan is to have this be a solo trip so I want to get a motorcycle and ride through southern France to Italy and back. I'm more interested in food, wine and great views than anything else.

Any opinions or input is welcome.

The alps by motorcycle would be pretty awesome. I've driven from Munich to Northern Italy and back twice. Its an amazing drive. I'm not sure I'd go much into Italy on a motorcycle unless you are very experienced as they drive insane there.

Not sure if I'll be able to get through the meat of the Alps, but I have plenty of time to plan.

Same here, had been throwing around the idea of going to a conference in Madrid in August. Randomly check flights today and got a horseshoe from AEX to Barcelona, coming back Madrid to AEX for $450 on Delta. Crazy cheap.

Could have a pretty nice time with a few days in barcelona, a few days driving up the costa brava and costa sol and then into the mountains for a spell. Enjoy! Such a cool area of the world.

Instead of waiting in 3 hour long lines (not kidding) you can go to the tourist site official website and buy a ticket for a specific time period to enter the attraction and skip all that BS.

Yeah I missed the monument park because I hiked all the way up to Park Gruell and it was like a 3 hour wait so I just saw it from the edge.

La Sagrada Familia is similar but I learned my lesson after that and booked online.

Barcelona is beautiful you'll love it. Go to a soccer game if it meets your schedule. Was surreal seeing Messi live as a soccer fan.

Soccer was on holiday break when I went. So I went to the Barca/Real Madrid basketball game. It was fricking awesome

Messi in Camp Nou was an experience I wont ever forget.

Also, would recommend heading to the old cathedral on a clear day and going up to the roof. Great view of the city.

Its my favorite food city in Europe. Stunningly good food with a wide range.

Is it hard to rent a motorcycle in Europe? Or a car for that matter. I would love to drive from Barcelona through France and into the alps and back next year.

Doesn't look to be too difficult. I think I'll need an International Driving Permit possibly with a motorcycle endorsement of some kind. Didn't sound like a big deal to the rental guy that I talked to.

He did think Barcelona to Italy and back would be really tough in a week, though. I'm not really planning to "see the sights" more than just riding around and eating food in every little town.
