Now I know this depends on what the person planned on doing so let's say....

- AirbNb or hotels
- 3 cities
- 1 tourist attraction a day
- 5-7 train rides
- 2 meals a day
- 3-4 drinks at night
- flight

For the 14 days what would you expect to pay?

I would think you could have a great trip for 3000-4000 bucks. Is that too much though? Friend and I were talking about last weekend

A trip to Japan is going to yield a more expensive trip than say Vietnam.

I went with the GF.. not exactly a single person trip and we had to stay in a hotel with AC, go see several tourist traps, eat 3 times a day, etc...

I could have a damn good time on $250 a day in most of Europe.

Couple of things:

Staying in hostels would be a lot cheaper than hotels, if that's your thing. You can research which hostels are better, and Europe has many.

In some cases, it will actually be a LOT cheaper to fly than to take rail, believe it or not. Ryanair is cheap as frick if you aren't packing heavy (like 15-30 dollars to get to most destinations if you're already in Europe). You'll get places faster and cheaper.

You can also use apps like BlaBlaCar. It is a long distance ridesharing app in Europe where you can take the empty seat of someone who is driving through Europe anyway. They are not allowed to overcharge you for a variety of reasons so its basically just sharing the cost of the journey plus a small bit extra. You can also pick who you want to go with based on how chatty you want to be.

There are other ways to keep costs down of that's what you're looking for.

Never heard of the car sharing app but that is interesting.

Also, this post wasn't meant for me just in general. I hear a lot of people say they want to go overseas but the cost is too much. It is more than most domestic but it can be done reasonably.

The reason I didn't mention hostels is most adults tend to not stay in those. More for a younger crowd it seems.

The cheapest place to fly to in Europe is generally Dublin. Usually about 550 from Nola. Cheaper from a place like NYC.

You then get a flight from Dublin on Ryanair for dirt cheap to anywhere in Europe.

Can then come through American customs in Dublin on the way back. One of the only places in the world you can do that.

You could easily do 2 weeks for $2000 if you wanted. That's bare bones certainly.

As said it depends on your flights really, if you can get under $700 or $1200 thats a big difference. Many times 2 people can be cheaper than 1 as you can split a Airbnb, otherwise you are stuck with a hostel. 2 people can also split a rental car and if you do a loop that can be the cheapest way to go often times.

Your main expense is your traveling. Now that I've been over there 3 times I also think most people travel way too much. I really enjoy the culture and staying in one nice central location and walking around, over traveling from one city to the next constantly.

5-7 train rides in 2 weeks?

You can easily do something like Amsterdam-brugge-Paris and do 3 train rides. Fly into one city and out the next for basically the same cost.

Super tight budget and a lot of trains are not necessary. Its easy to do day trips and what not.

Once you subtract airfare, travel between cities, and expensive activities Europes not that expensive. You can easily go to Paris as a couple for under $1000 for a week. It really just depends on what you want to do and what you want to pay for.

Depends where in Europe. If money is tight, avoid the Nordic region and Switzerland.

If money is extremely tight, then go to Eastern Europe (Prague, Vienna Budapest).

Majority of them do not have AC when I was looking, we had to request it in Italy as well.

This is not abnormal at all in Europe. Their buildings were built before AC, and much of Europe drops down into the low 70s at night so its not really needed to sleep even in the summer. There are a lot of people even in the states that live in the mountains in older homes that may not have AC.

Its honestly a great way to save money if you look at the Lows at night and are never going to be in your hotel room, then those rooms are always a good bit cheaper.

My brother and I pulled off Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto), a 7 day trip with 2 people, for under $3,000 combined. Stayed in hostels the whole time. Probably splurged on 4 or so meals. Got tons of souvenirs. We could have done the trip cheaper if we tried.

Disclaimer: I work for an airline so our flights were only about $600.
