Salmon, I feel your pain and agree with all you said. My two kids, now college age, like Disneyworld; my wife LOVES it. She's been about 20 times with the kids, and I went the first 5 or 6 times. I'll save you from a wall of text of all my bad experiences; suffice it to say that I'm done with the place. My family reached a compromise; we stay off-site (Hyatt), and they do the Disney-thing. Dad plays golf, then hits the pool/bar. If they want to see Dad, they know where to find him.

The only decent meal we had was in Cinderella's Castle at the character dinner. But even though the food was decent, spending $200 to eat with kids running around everywhere isn't exactly a great experience.

We had the complete opposite experience. Food at Cinderella's Castle was extremely disappointing, but the experience was great. Of course we went at night and there were no kids running around. Maybe we just got lucky and everyone during our time group had well behaved kids.

There is good food to be had at Disney though

I feel sorry for kids who have a parent like you. I can't wait to take my kids for the first time this year. Even if we ride Dumbo all day every day because that's what they wanna do. To see them truly happy and remembering what that felt like for me as a kid is worth it.

I won't go every year because that's weird. I'll stay offsite because I can get a much nicer place than Disney has to offer. I don't need to eat all my meals on site either. But I'm not abandoning my family on a family vacation.

Yeah, Disney can be a nightmare for some people. I go a lot because it's easy and usually not too expensive since we have family that live near it. I wouldn't go much at all if I wasn't in Orlando for family reasons.

Be Our Guest (lunch) - What a fricking ripoff. What is the point of reservations if you still have to wait in line for an hour to eat? And then no Belle? frick that place. This was the worst event of the entire trip.

Should of went for dinner or breakfast (I only go for dinner because I am not a breakfast person, but friends tell me it is amazing for breakfast too and you can get in the park early/before it opens for breakfast.) Lunch is by far the worst meal to get there. It's an extremely popular restaurant, so some wait is gonna be expected even with reservations. They have been fighting that awhile.

You should have had your wife eat Salmon for all of her meals there.

so mid January is a crowded time?

If you went for MLK Day and inauguration week then yes. Every enter week in Jan is pretty empty from my experience. A rule of thumb for Disney is to make sure that there are no major school holidays anywhere in the country.

I agree some of the food prices are outrageous, but you just have to pick and choose. You can also get burgers or lunch for a family of 4 for under $30 plenty of places.

The fact is the price of the character dinners and other expensive meals are there because of the characters and demand, not the food. I don't every try to eat anywhere because of the food, I can get better food elsewhere outside of wdw for a better price. I eat because I'm hungry and it makes the most amount of sense for my kids.

You should of went to Hollywood studios? It's very adult friendly also.

Be Our Guest is a logistical nightmare. The only way to do it and not want to ripe your eyelashes off is to pre-order your food (which is absolutely retarded and in no way am I suggesting pre-ordering what you want to eat is a good method).
I don't understand the hate on pre-ordering. You can literally google every single item on the menu and see pictures and a review, etc. Pre-ordering your meal is probably the best thing about this meal. I wish I could pre-order my food at every table-service meal in WDW.

because you get stuck behind a family of 9 like we did and they take about 20 minutes to order because they, for some reason, wait till they get to the little kiosk to think about what they want to eat, instead of using the hour they stood in line to do so

I plan on waiting to order at the kiosk, just like we did last time.
We didnt have a problem at all.

We just got back a week and a half ago. Had an unbelievable time.
Had BOG for dinner (only time you get to meet the Beast). Also had Cinderella's Royal Table. My younger kids are both boys, so this was more of a bucket list thing, but my 3 year old was beside himself after Jasmine sat and hugged him for no less than 5 minutes and left lipstick kiss marks all over his face.
We also stayed at AoA, as we did our first trip in 2015. Love the resort. We are basically there to sleep and sleep only. Yeah, it didn't seem to cool off as much as I wanted but by the end of every day I was so exhausted I crashed anyway. Have never really noticed the bus rides being all that bad, and I had a double stroller with me.
We had planned on taking a couple of years break from Disney, hence why we overdid it with 2 dessert parties, BOG dinner, CRT, Le Cellier, etc., but we may very well make it a yearly thing. Fortunately, we are able to take more than one vacation per year so we're still able to do other things. Planning on either DC or Yellowstone next.

sorry. I pre-ordered on my phone prior to all of that. Didn't have to wait in line at all. You can avoid the kiosk completely by using the My Disney Experience app/website.

was not aware of that

did you still have to wait in line for an hour even with reservations?

We have never had to wait more than about 20 minutes in line with ADR's. We usually preorder on our phones while we are on the way there. They always asked us if we had preordered when we checked in. Breakfast or Dinner was the best way to go even though I did enjoy my lunch there.

To OP, yeah you ate at probably my least favorite place in EPCOT. Chefs Of France has had the same sad menu for years and years. The food was very bland to boot. Via Napoli, Tuto Italia, LeCellier, and even Rose and Crown are much better IMO.

No, when you pre-order you bypass the line. Not that I suggest trying to figure out what you want to eat that far in advance but it does save you from the logistical nightmare.

Really should have gotten a travel agent for the first trip, with the changes they've made, it's necessary. Plus they are free and would let you know where to eat, what to expect, and all. It's for the kids though, especially if you aren't into the rides, that's why people go, and should go at least once.

This is such an asinine comment. I couldn't wait for my kid's first Disney experience also. I was really excited to see how happy she would be at Disney. Magic Kingdom sucked and there wasn't much happiness from anyone visiting the park. I hope you have a great time but I'd be careful emotionally building up your trip...it might not be like you remembered as a kid.
