I am traveling to Iceland for 5 days and have the following already planned.
Blue Lagoon Spa
Snorkeling by tectonic plate divide
Golden Circle hike
Northern Lights
Is there anything that I should look to do that I have missed? I do have a free day.

You should bring back a full report for my trip in March!
I would check out ice caves.

Are you self-driving or taking tours everywhere? My wife and I are going with another couple in two weeks and decided to rent a 4x4 suv. Assuming they don't predict a bad storm a day or two before we leave, we'll stick with the car rental although most advice seems to encourage tourists to rely on tours/charters to get around. Just curious how ya'll are doing it... We land at 4:30AM on March 2 and will be doing the Blue Lagoon that morning, exploring Reykjavik in the afternoon, and a NL tour that night. The second day we're self-driving the Golden Circle. Third day we're doing a four-wheeler tour along southern Reykjavik Peninsula with 4x4 Adventures Iceland - I probably would've gone with a South Coast tour instead but got outvoted by the group. Everyone says the South Coast is pretty incredible - I'd suggest looking into that. Have fun and come back with a trip report!

I'm going with 3 friends and we land on March 1. Which tour did you book for NL? I also want to rent a small 4x4 suv to get around. We also heard should do blue lagoon as arrive since near the airport.
Are yall staying in one place the whole time or traveling around and sleeping at different locations?
What are the recommended things to do/see on south coast?

tours any of these tours seem to be worth the money?

We've booked our NL tour with Extreme Iceland on one of their minibuses. It's best to book that one on the front end of your trip since they let you go again a different night for free if you don't see the lights the first time.
The Sensational Iceland tour with Extreme Iceland is the one I've read such great reviews about. You leave around 9am and get back around 8pm so it's a full day deal - think the cost was roughly 175/pp.
We're staying at the Kvosin Hotel in Reyjavik the entire time. I would've liked to stay in a different town (Vik for ex) maybe one night but it's such a short trip and the weather is too unpredictable in early March to worry about being able to get there.
Should be a good time though. Are y'all staying in Reyjavik the entire time?

I want to go back so badly. Spent 2 weeks traveling around the country. There are so many amazing spots. Some of the great places are so touristy, but there are other spots that are hard to get to that are still just fantastic. Dynjandi waterfall is one of my favorite waterfalls I've ever seen

Yeah, I think April-September is probably a better time to go so you don't have to worry about the weather as much and you can drive to the more remote areas. For ex, I would love to do the hike up to the geothermal river - can't remember the name - or go up to the Fjords but you just can't easily do that in winter from what I've read. We're hopefully going to check off the northern lights this trip, and if its anything like what everyone says, I'm sure we'll go back with our kids when it's warmer.

Update on the trip so far. It is extremely warm. Locals that I have talked to all say that this is the warmest winter they have ever experienced. There is no snow anywhere so it is easy to drive on the roads.
It has also been really foggy due to such warm temperatures (45 degrees ish) and the Northern Lights have been pushed back both days I have been here. The main Ice Caves that the tour companies use are flooded so they have gone to a backup one.
It is suppose to get colder as the week goes on with snow coming on Wednesday and temperatures hovering around 30 degrees.

Should be a good time though. Are y'all staying in Reyjavik the entire time?
THinking possibly this tour on Friday? or we just drive down ourselves and stay in the south and head to Jökulsárlón area?

Does that include the Jökulsárlón ice caves?

Saw the northern lights tonight! They came out in full force and we're epic. Well worth the whole trip for that alone,

A cold front just came in so you should be fine. Go ahead with that and there should be no worries. Snowed a good amount today and will be more through the end of the week.

Thanks for posting this. I'll be connecting through Iceland early Saturday morning while it's dark and will definitely look for them (and I have a window seat on both flights).
The cool thing about Iceland Air is you can lay over as many days as you want without charge. For this trip I decided to spend the weekend in London instead of Iceland but if this trip goes well I'll have a chance to do a layover in Iceland in May.

For anyone going in the next couple weeks, the Northern Lights are supposed to be incredible most nights between now through March 5th. They'll peak Feb 28th - March 2nd when activity is forecasted to be a level 5 or 6 those nights. The other nights are expected to be around a 4 which is still very active. Leaving a week from today - can't wait.
