I'm looking at taking the family to the Gulf Coast (Orange Beach, 30a, PCB) for Spring Break next year. We'll have a couple of families with kids ranging from 1-8 y/o. Will it be too cold to swim in the pools/ocean?

Never can tell. Some years, water is chilly but kids don't seem to mind. Some years it is still cool outside and the water is freezing.

Wife always takes the kids to Caribe in Orange Beach. It has an indoor pool just in case it's too cold.

The water will be chilly, but there will be plenty of people swimming if it is somewhat warm and sunny. You also get a decent wind around that time of the year, especially in March.

There's a big difference between early March and late April.

Thanks guys. I think we may have to venture further south to get warmer weather (S.FL/Caribbean). Any recs for beaches in South FL?

This. I know the pool at the Terrace at Pelican Beach in Destin is heated. And there is also an indoor/outdoor pool at Pelican Beach on the same property that can be heated.

Caribe pools are freezing cold no matter when you go. But the kids love them because of the slides

When specifically are you going? April is a great time, the water really doesn't get great until late April/ early may. There's a chance to a cold front until late April. But you can also get 80 degree days in early March where the cooler water will feel good.

I like to go in March. It's pretty chilly, but I prefer it that way because there's usually less shark activity in the surf, and less chance of picking up one of those dangerous infections you hear about.

It's cold at first but you can get used to it and enjoy it.

Do you really worry about this when deciding to go to the beach?

We're planning on Apr 1-7. I haven't been to FL for Spring Break in awhile (we go in the summer) and wasn't sure about the wx. Like I said, I think we're going to travel a little further south.
