Food Tour NYC

Going this summer for my second trip to NYC. Also bringing the GF for her first trip. We pretty much have decided what we want to do on certain days but also have a day that is pretty much empty. We were thinking of doing a food tour but want to see if anyone here had been on one/would recommend one or if it is worth it.

For clarification - when you say food tour do you mean something that actually involves a guide and being brought from place to place, or are you asking for a list of "must eat" restaurants in the city?

With a guide. I saw there were ones for around $50

Ah ok got it. Sorry I've never done something like that so I'm not of much use.
But I can provide restaurant recs if necessary.

Yep, did the Original Greenwich Tour through this company. Really enjoyed it and I've gone back to some of the places on the tour in subsequent visits.

Serious question - what are these tours about? They just bring you by places to get good food and tell you about them?

Any recommendations are definitely accepted. Thanks!

They talk about the restaurants, the neighborhood, and any historical points of interest along the way. But it's really all about the food.
I've done one in NYC and Honolulu and I'd highly recommend both. They took me to places I probably wouldn't have found on my own (even with friends that live in NYC) and allowed me to sample a BUNCH of food in a few hours time (that's probably the real draw).
We did the NYC one 2 years ago and it was 9 degrees! Bad time for a walking tour!
ETA: I should mention the cost of the food is included in the tour. Although some stops give you the opportunity to purchase something else - glass of wine, extra cookies, etc.

The Greenwich one is the most popular. I was forced into doing it with some friends recently and it was fine. It is a good way to kill a couple hours especially if you are unfamiliar with the area.

Gramercy Tavern is fantastic with a great beer list.
Le Coucou was the best meal I've had in my life.
If you want good Italian food without the crowds of Little Italy, check out the neighborhood of NoLita (North of Little Italy).
Per Se if you can get reservations is not to be missed.
Tom Colicchio's Craft was phenomenal.

Get out in the boroughs for good ethnic food. Manhattan is pricey, gimmicky fusion restaurants.

Per Se was probably the best overall meal I've eaten in recent memory and that includes business trips to London, Singapore, Thailand, Rio, and Brisbane.
Good call.
