Flying into Orlando at night...

Has anyone ever done it around the time of the Disney firework shows? Are they pretty visible? My flight should get there about the time Illuminations and Fantasmic are going off. The flight seems to pass just south of the parks on a typical basis (flightaware.com). I am going to try to get a seat on the left side of the plane so my lady friend (no pics) can see them. This is her first time to ever fly, so I want to take her mind off of the experience of landing.

It's going to be a crapshoot if you land from the south or the north at MCO. Two weeks ago I landed from the north (due to weather south of the airport) at night. I've seen fireworks shows during a flight, but frankly they are as impressive as you may think. You're still a good height above the parks and traveling 200+ MPH.

Where is your flight coming from? MSY-MCO? It really is going to depend all on the wind that day. If wind is out of the north, your flight will land to the north at MCO. Wind out of the south, flight will land to the south. I'll change my seat last minute to get better views depending on the arrival patterns at the airport (sunrise, sunset, moon, etc.)

I've been screwed over on this too many times to care anymore. I seem to catch the switches at ATL far too frequently.

Damn really? I can't think of a single trip in 2016 where they've changed E-W or N-S arrivals. Maybe I've just gotten lucky with pretty good weather this year. Plus Dallas is almost always a North or South wind at 20mph

They'll also change them based on the predominant direction of their arrivals/departures. But I've been caught a few times in the last year or so either in the air or on the ground getting rerouted.

I am flying from MSY to MCO. I went to flightaware and looked back over the previous 20 or so flights for the airline and flight number. The only one that came in from the north was when there was a bad storm over the gulf.

My guess is you're on southwest so if you are, you won't have to worry about picking seats until you're on the place. If it's frontier, I'd just hold off for a little bit then pay for a seat. Take a look at the weather forecast right before you board and check for the estimated winds that day.
The other issue with the Nola-Florida flights is that sometimes they track over the gulf and the other times they fly the coastline over MS, AL, then cut down. All depends on the weather again, hopefully this works out for your

I have paid for tickets... explain the pay for a seat comment? They let you pick your seat at the ticket kiosk if you pay a little extra?

Everytime I've flown southwest from MSY to MCO we came in from the south.

Exactly, you could pick seats right now if you wanted to spend a little $. Looks like it's $12 per seat if you want a window from the middle to the back of the plane, $24 for further up, and $45 for the even more legroom seats. I would either pick at the front or near the back so you have a nice view (not of the wing)

Of course when I flew there two weeks ago from Miami we had to come in from the north

If I do not pay for seats in advance, will I be able to get two together the day of? Or will we likely be separated?

Cuse, you seem to be quite knowledgeable about air travel. What do you do for a living if you don't mind me asking?

Chemistry . If I could afford it I'd travel the world, I just try to do everything on a budget with what I've got in my spare time.
