I have been done with this charge about 4 years ago i think

I am supposed to go to Vancouver on 06/26-06/28 and had no idea about this rule!!! Is it possible to still go? What can I do?

That is the strangest requirement I've ever seen.

Maybe this site will help?

Going to Canada 'eh?

Pretty sure they won't let you in with a DWI and there is nothing you can do

After reading that link...good luck. It won't be resolved in less than 2 months if I had to guess

Damn, had no clue. I have one from about 6 years ago (never convicted). Was tossing around the idea of going to Vancouver in October but not now.

What do they do, run a background check on every person that enters the country?

This rule caught a few tiger fans by surprise when the Tigers played in Seattle. Had a friend who was shut down at the border on a day trip before the game.

If its leisure, then you are 99 percent not getting in. It must be 10 years or more since you completed everything in the court and has been dismissed. It does NOT matter if you got it "894" or expunged.

How do they know? I am not sure but I am not going to take my chances regardless.

He asked if it was business or if it was a wedding.. If it was then there is difficult but successful process I could do which would grant me access for those few days. I could have lied and said it was either of those but it seems like a pain in the arse for just two days.

He did suggest that I fill out a TRP which takes 9 months usually where I can temporarily go to Canada until 10 years has passed for $1500.00 dollars --- WTF!!!!!!

I told him ill pass and wait 10 years!

Is there a national database? How in the world could they find this out? is it because I buy the train tickets in advance so they have time to check people's background?

I plead guilty to a reckless op back in 08. Went to Canada shortly after and didnt disclose the arrest and it was a big deal. They held me at customs for a while before letting me go. The guy told me it wasnt the guilty plea, but the arrest that threw up the flag.

ETA: I was let through, it just took a bit longer than usual.

I got a DWI and went through the 894 expungement process. Went to Canada less than 5 years later and had no problems. I don't recall even being asked about being arrested or anything. This was in 2011 though

Do we have the same rule for them? What the heck else is there to do in the Canadian winter but drink? I'd think they have a lot of DUI's up there if they enforced it.

You can't get into Canada if you've had a DUI? Are you fricking kidding me? That's insane?

The couple of times I've gone(driving) they just glanced at my passport and handed it back. Maybe they scrutinize more when flying
