We did magic kingdom for a day just for nostalgia, it was fun but no alcohol served there.

Sneaking in mini coconut rum bottles for pineapple dole whip is a must for me. SO GOOD...

There are a select few good restaurants, most in Disney Village

Sounds like it's been a while since you've been.

I'm not sure what your budget is but we did the 7 course dinner with wine parings at Victoria and Albert's. It's one of the best meals I've ever had. I think it's one of the top 50 restaurants in the US.

TripAdvisor just ranked it as the #2 restaurant in all the US: LINK

It must have been a really long time since he has been. It hasn't been known as Disney Village in quite a long time. Now known as Disney Spring's and it has some really great restaurants owned by chefs such as Rick Bayless and Morimoto. They generally have about a dozen live acts located throughout as you walk around. They are also pushing alcohol much much more than in the past.

You are so right about Victoria & Alberts...set you back $300-500 per head...and it's not premium priced because of Disney. It is just that damn amazing.

$300-$500 per head is a bit high.

My wife and I went last year, each got the wine pairing but didn't add any other food options (Kobe beef, etc) and we got out for $500 including gratuity

You are correct. I have been several times and have been in the $300-500 each time but I am a sucker for add-ons. Alcohol generally does us in as well.

Success can be had at Disney even during the busiest days of the year but your plan and expectations need to match the crowd levels. IMO, the best thing about Disney is the amount of available activities for all types. From fishing, golf, shopping, dining, theme parks, mini golf, movies, bowling, etc., they kinda have it all. AND, they cater to families better than no other.

So, you're going not as a family, when it may be cold as hell (but may be in the 70's/80's) and during the busiest week of the year. So basically, your climbing uphill.

While I wouldn't recommend it, it's doable. If you don't already have your ADR (advanced dining reservations) it's going to be REALLY hard to get reservations at the most desirable. Scratch that, it's going to be almost impossible.

So, what I would do is plan on hitting the parks early every morning and try to get in those desirable places at undesirable times. Go to Tiffins for Lunch. Hit up Sanaa for lunch then just hang out till dusk. Try places like Narcoose's right when they open for dinner, etc. then just suppliment your dining qith some of the better quick service options (Tangerine Cafe, Yak & Yeti, etc) and since you won't be on the dining plan, the places at Swan & Dolphin are good to. (Shula's, BlueZoo, etc).

My plan would be to stay on grounds without question, make sure I had the park hoppers and hit the parks early, BUT do not schedule my FP+ till later in the day. Parks will close at some point due to capacity (yes, it's that busy) but usually reopen within a couple hours once some of the crowds start to leave. So, beat them there, leave before lunch and come back that evening when your FP+ are waiting for you and you can catch some night time shows, fireworks, etc.

FYI, I found the smoked bourbon milkshake at D-Luxe burger to be excellent.
