Chicago this weekend, White Sox and Cubs game

Flying to Chicago Saturday with 10 year old grandson. White Sox game on Sunday and Cubs game on Monday. Looking for places to go, places to eat around the ballparks. Thanks

The White Sox play in the hood. I’ll defer to those that know more but I’m not sure there is much of anything around there. And don’t get off at any other stops around there.
Wrigleyville is awesome. Ton of bars. Again, I’ll defer to those that know for places for kids.

Went to see the Cubs last weekend with teenagers. They liked the Sears tower and the ledge. The $5 train and bus pass was a lifesaver. Get the moovit app to help with trains and busses. They also liked the Cuby Bear outside Wrigley before the game.

I went to a Sox game 3 weeks ago. Guaranteed Rate has a reputation for quality food. Tons of options so you may want to eat at the game. There’s a pizza place just north of the main parking area called Stix N Brix. Beyond that, you’d be better off eating before or after the game. Walking to our car, we heard a few gunshots several blocks away. You’re safe around the stadium, but it’s generally right back on the interstate from the parking lot.

I assume he will take the T out there since he is flying in. Should be fine. Don’t get off on any stops close to the stadium on the way there or back. Just the stadium stop.
And I agree that there was good selection of food when I went (thought that’s been a few years).

Sox - generally not a whole lot to do outside the stadium. Couple bars a block north. Fantastic Mexican joint called Martinez Market if burritos are your thing about 2 blocks or so away. Otherwise Sox food is great inside the stadium. Red Line is safe too and from Sox games since it’s basically all fans.
Cubs - tons of bars/restaurants within a block of Wrigley. None have particularly amazing food but they are all fun. Sluggers has batting cages on top floor and arcade games. Not sure if kids are allowed but I’m sure they would have a blast if so. Wirgley’s food is meh.
As for other food options in the city:
pizza: Pequods
Wings: Birds Nest
Steak: Bavetts
Burger: Au Cheval
Cool Tourist food spot: Chicago Pizza Oven Grinder
Fast Food: Portillos
Other kid friendly activities: North Ave Beach or Navy Pier

We did this trip back in April.
There’s actually a really good Italian restaurant a block or two north of the stadium - Franco’s Ristorante. It was a safe walk. We ate there before a Friday night game.

This is a complicated, loaded statement. First, the stop immediately north is Chinatown, which is completely fine. The stop after Sox-35th would be 47th. Not sure how anyone going to a Sox game would end up here, considering the flood of fans that get off at the baseball stadium.
Bronzeville is, relatively, safe and east of the interstate, but, again, there really isn't any reason why a baseball fan would go that way. The three neighborhoods north of Guaranteed Rate are Bridgeport, Pilsen and Chinatown. You are safe in all three neighborhoods. Bridgeport and Pilsen, in particular, have undergone heavy gentrification. Very fun neighborhoods with plenty of dining options. As for around the stadium, the two bars you'll see people at are Cork & Kerry and Turtle's. Unsure if kids are allowed. As long as you're down there, may as well check out Phil's Pizza in Bridgeport. In my opinion, best tavern-style in the city. Otherwise, and not sure if your grandson likes Chinese food, but you might pop off the train one stop sooner and hit Chinatown.
ETA: For Cubs, Wrigleyville has plenty of bars, but if you're looking for something a little quieter with your grandson, walk over to Southport and eat at Corridor. Very cool stretch of Lake View, plenty of families, etc.

On the day of the Sox game, have lunch downtown at Miller's Pub or any number of Michigan Ave restaurants fronting the park. Ride the red line to 35th. The area got a bad rap 30 years ago, its fine now. The real problem is that there isn't much around of interest to folks from out of town. Couple of neighborhood bars, etc...
On the cubs game day, have breakfast at Chicago Bagel Authority before the game (heaping bagel sandwiches, can easily be lunch, too), spend some time in the new village they built adjacent-west of the park, then afterward eat at Big & Little or Crosby Kitchen. If you really want an adventure, Laschett's German restaurant on Irving Park Road is a ten minute taxi ride, and a total trip. You can ride the L back downtown from either place.

Laschet's Inn kicks arse, but it's closed on Monday and I don't think it's really the spot for a 10-year-old after a night game at Wrigley

Everyone has been pretty spot on.... so won't chime in too much.
Will just add hit up Sluggers in Wrigleyville with your 10 year old grandson. They have an indoor batting cage in there with Arcade.... he'll enjoy taking a few hacks before going check out the Cubbies.

Leaving the intercontinental hotel on Michigan Ave. for Sox game tomorrow afternoon. Will ask where to get on train and off. Any other suggestions or tips are appreciated.

Walk to Grand and take the Red Line towards 95th. Get off at Sox-35th. Coming back, take Red Line towards Howard and get off at Grand.
ETA: Warning that you may have to wait for a couple Howard trains because of the crowd on the platform.

Haven't been to Sportsman's in awhile, but I used to love their backyard grill. Good reminder - I'll have to get there soon!
