Headed up to Bammer land Friday through Sunday, primarily looking for restaurant recommendations and anything else worth checking out while we're there.
Amy help would be appreciated.

Happy to oblige. In what part of town are you staying? I assume the amount of downtime will vary depending on the team's performance but let me know if you know that you will have nights or mornings or some set time free. Also, what age range are we talking?

Thanks. 12 and 14 girls. I think our hotel is close to Heardmont Park.

2 LSU grads/die hard fans own a restaurant called Delta Blues Hot Tamales. It's on Cobb Lane.

It sounds like you are staying south of Birmingham near Oak Mountain. There’ll be a lot of chains near there and I’m not aware of any local places to eat that would be worth visiting. There may be some, but I don’t know.
It might be worth driving into town to eat. With teenagers, I’d recommend:
Avondale - Post Office Pies (pizza), Saw’s (BBQ, burgers), Fancy’s (burgers, oysters), or Saigon Noodle House.
Downtown – El Barrio (Mexican), Bamboo (sushi), and Paramount (good bar food, family friendly).
Lakeview/Pepper Place – Slice (pizza), Sky Castle (bar but good), Oven Bird (small plates, upscale), Bettola (Italian).
Homewood – Saw’s (BBQ, greens, etc), Edgewood Creamery (ice cream), Johnny’s (Greek-style meat and three), and Red Pearl (Chinese).
Things to do: (1) Oak Mtn State park - decent hiking and close to you, (2) Red Mtn Park -hiking, zip-line, maybe a petting zoo?, (3) Vulcan – kids are probably too old to really enjoy, (4) 6th Street Baptist Church and/or Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, (5) Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum – incredible motorcycle collection, and (6) Pepper Place Farmer’s Market (Sat morning only).
If it were me and you have some time during the day, I’d probably got to Edgewood in Homewood and eat at Saw’s and get ice cream at Edgewood Creamery then head over to Red Mtn Park. Or if evening night, maybe Room Escape in Lakeview then slice or Sky Castle. Also a tapas place near there that’s okay.
I hope you enjoy the city. I’ve come to consider it home.

I probably should have pointed out that you will be relatively close to The Summit, an outdoor mall (I guess that's the right word) with some of the best shopping in AL. Some high stores like Michael Kors to boutiques to Nordstrom.
Lots of food options there including chains like PF Changs, Chuys, Cheesecake Factory, CPK, Flip Burger. A few local places including Urban Cookhouse, Steel City Pops, Zoe's (used be local anyway). Movie theater, etc.

Summit will be the easiest in the day. Be sure to go to Steel City Pops. Kids love it.
Saws is very good, but get there early. Order some wings.

From the Ham but haven't been there in a long time...
If I was back and had the time I would go to sloss furnaces, rickwood field and milo's.
Birmingham history....

I almost suggested Sloss. Rickwood is cool but unlikely to have anything going on. Milos is a BHM institution w a unique fast food burger and sweet tea that's out of this world.

Thanks for checking. The weather didn't cooperate so all of Sunday's games were cancelled. Also, the schedule did not allow for much time to explore between the kids' matches. When we go back, I have lots of options that unfortunately I couldn't enjoy this trip.
