Wanting to bring my stepsons skimboard with us from MSY-CUN. We have brought it every year usually to either CUN or the exumas. Delta's policy states a skimboard over 43" is considered a surf board. His is about 53". A surfboard is 150$ each way. This is nuts. I have never paid that fee before. Anybody have any experience. Can I get lucky and simply pay a bag fee as I have in the past?

Buy a skimboard there for probably $50 and leave it there

Usually falls on the discretion of whoever you deal with in the morning. You won't get any guarantees of exception so I would expect to pay the higher fee if you decide to bring it or just buy one when you get there.

This. I travel Delta with a soft-sided golf bag carrier that I'm supposed to sign a waiver releasing them of damage responsibility. I've flown with it at least 50 times and signed the waiver twice.

He saved and bought himself a 5-600 board years ago. Really defeats the purpose to have to leave it behind. Just hoping maybe someone knew if they didn't stick to policy and pull out the measuring tape. Would it be a bad idea to try to get it through in MSY and if not run it back to the car?

Eta: reading their website. I think I'll just tell them it's a kneeboard/wakeboard. It's in a case. Then standard bag fees apply.

We leave in 10 days. Shipping to/from Mexico is a crapshoot. I'd do it with insurance though. I'll check with the property manager and get his opinion.

If you fly MSY and short term park it is worth a shot. However I would presume in Mexico that you would expect to pay and wouldn't leave it there. Total crap shoot but if it means that much to you bring it. You won't remember spending $150 in 3 years but the kid will have the memory.

A skimboard in Mexico is probably about $6.
