Atlanta - Things to do for a 3-4 night stay

I've been to Atlanta twice, but it's been 15-20 years since I've last been. We're coming from Tennessee so we'll most likely check out Smoky Mountain National Park and Lookout Mountain on the way in. Plan on catching a Braves game, Georgia Aquarium and maybe Coca-Cola. Wife wants to do some shopping of course. What else would some of y'all recommend?

Think you've hit the highlights.

That's what I figured. Frick
ETA: Maybe we'll catch a few Braves' games then

How many people and what ages?
Stone Mountain-if you are into history there is all of that. If not, it is beautiful for hiking. The view from the top is great, and you can ride the tram up if you don't want to hike (pretty steep in places). Lots of other stuff to do, paddle boats, and kid stuff too.
Kennesaw Mountain-similar
College Football Hall of Fame
Some good breweries for tours (Sweetwater, Monday Night, Red Brick, Wild Heaven, etc.)
Drinks at the Peachtree Plaza-cheesy, but still a good time for a couple
Atlanta History Center is a good local museum if you are into that sort of thing

They used to do tours at the turner broadcasting building, not even sure if that's still the name of the building. Underground atlanta used to be nice but I've heard it's gotten a little dangerous. I done anything there besides sporting events in a while.

Just my wife (5 months pregnant) and I

There's a bunch of studios there. I went to CNN last summer. It's downtown and near coca cola and worth checking out.
The midtown area is good for restaurants and bars.

So much for hiking and breweries.
I'd still recommend Stone Mountain if y'all like to walk at all. Like I said, the tram to the top is available if the hike up is too much for her.
Y'all might enjoy Decatur. Lots of good local restaurants.
Could see what is going on at the Fox Theater when you are in town.
I will ponder more. What sorts of things do you like besides baseball?

Depends on what you are into and also where you are staying - that will factor into some of your choices. World of Coke, Aquarium, College Football HOF and CNN are all right together around Centennial Park.
Oakland Cemetery is the final resting place of Margaret Mitchell, Bobby Jones, several former governors and a lot of cool architecture for mausoleums, and it isn't far from Turner Field.
Food wise, Six Feet Under is really good and is right across the street from Oakland. The Vortex in Little 5 Points has great burgers (and L5P is great for people watching) but it is 21 and up and allows smoking inside, so it may not be the best place to take a pregnant wife. Also, Fox Brothers BBQ on Dekalb Avenue just outside of L5P is probably the best BBQ in Atlanta.
Stone Mountain is nice, as someone has said.
Shopping depends on what your taste is. Lenox is in town and somewhat higher end. Perimeter Mall or Mall of Georgia are more of a typical suburban shopping experience.

Go to Perimeter over Mall of Georgia
I thought about Vortex too, but the smoking thing could be an issue. I have not had an issue, but it is a possibility.

I would add College Football HOF to your list.
If the weather is nice, I'd recommend strolling around Piedmont Park and the beltline. You could visit the botanical gardens at the park and chill out on the patio at Park Tavern. The beltline runs directly from the park for a few miles through neighborhoods east of midtown. Plenty of good stops along to the way, including Ponce City Market if your wife wants to do some shopping. PCM also has a good collection of quick lunch spots in the food hall and mini golf on the rooftop.
If you want restaurant recommendations, can definitely help there but would need to know what you're looking for.

Speaking of golf, Top Golf would be fun if you play even a little bit. She can hit or not. Fun place.

I haven't been in a decade but there are mummified bodies at Emory University, there is a dinosaur exhibit and a bodies exhibit (wouldn't recommend with a pregnant wife) as well.

I haven't booked hotels yet. Any areas that I should avoid? Was thinking of booking something close to Centennial Park or Turner Field
Posted on 4/28/16 at 11:08 am to ForeverLSU02
There are four outlet malls that I can think of, but none are in Atlanta proper. There is one in Commerce (up I-85 northeast of the city), one in Locust Grove (down I-75 southeast of the city), one in Dawsonville (up SR 400 north of the city) and the newest one is in Woodstock (up 75/575 northwest of the city). If you are coming from Chattanooga or going back that way, you will be closest to this one.

Centennial Park is downtown; it would be ok. I wouldn't stay near TF.
If it was me, I'd probably stay in the Perimeter area.
The outlet malls are outside of town, one around Commerce up 85, one up 400 and one south of town.
Don't go south. Traffic is a nightmare down there. Up 400 would be best I think.
edit: didn't know about the one in Woodstock. Good idea

We're coming in from Chattanooga. We're visiting wife's family in Murfreesboro for a few days and then making our way to Atlanta
ETA: We were originally going to do Cincinnati instead of Atlanta, but we just changed our minds

Stay north of downtown. Either mid-town area or in buckhead.
IDK what days you are going, but we went to the sweetwater brewery tour on a Saturday morning and it was a ton of fun. Packed with people, but the place is huge. Although, her being pregnant that might not be the best idea.
World of Coke is cool, as is the aquarium. Go check out the GT campus or something. Eat at the varsity.
If you have time, I'd tell you to spend a day in Athens. Its only 45 min east, but thats a really cool city. Plenty of bars, shopping, places to eat, breweries, campus of UGA.
