The wife and I had plans for gatlinburg in a couple weeks, but now we are thinking of canceling and trying to get a room in Asheville for 5-7 days. We planned on going to the Biltmore one day, but what are some other things to do around town?

Beer!

Wicked Weed, Burial, Sierra Nevada, New Belgium... So much good beer. Especially Wicked Weed Funkatorium if you're into sours.

There are some mountains and hiking nearby too...

This should be a pinned subject. It seems like it comes up once a month.

I am considering expanding the sticky to just overall recommendations, I'm coming to realize that not everybody comes back to post pictures in detail reviews like some of us

Tons of awesome places to eat in Asheville. Do yourself a favor and eat breakfast one morning at Early Girl Eatery.

Drink beer mostly. We did Sierra Nevada, Wicked Weed, fly fished, Land Rover Driving School at the Biltmore, ate at a few decent restaurants (Bull and Beggar and Sierra Nevada being the standouts). Was a decent time...but I don't think I need to go back.

Beautiful part of the country though.

Loved biscuit head!

Also, Asheville Pinball Museum is a lot of fun. From their website:

***ONCE YOU PAY THE ADMISSION ($15) YOU CAN PLAY OVER 75 PINBALL AND CLASSIC VIDEO GAMES WITHOUT ANY QUARTERS OR TOKENS.

Third vote for biscuithead.

also, depending on how long you are there, Greenville, SC is a quick drive and the downtown is incredible. Would be worth a day if you are in the area very long

Wife and I went in April. We got there on Wednesday. Just walked around downtown bar hopping and then ate dinner. Thursday we went up into the mountains and went rafting with the with French Broad.
Friday we did a couple of brewery tours. I highly suggest the Wicked Weed Funkatorium tour.
Saturday we spent the day in our rental car riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
