Which one sucks less in terms of security and transport to Central London.

Never flew out of Stanstead, but Gatwick is fairly easy in terms of transport. Theres a direct train line into central London. Security was never an issue for me either.

Gatwick is easy. There is a train that will lead you to Victoria Station.

Stansted is way way out there, almost in the countryside, we flew out of there to Austria. I think it is more of a within Europe airport, it is pretty small and security was a mess, but this was over ten years ago.

I have flown in to Gatwick. It is smaller and less crowded than Heathrow but it is a much longer ride in to town. From Heathrow we rode the tube right to our hotel. Can't do this from Gatwick. We had pre-arranged transportation to London.

I flew from Stansted in April, its very efficient. Primarily a low-cost carrier airport (Ryanair and Easyjet). Security was efficient, no issues with taxi-out or take-off (unlike Heathrow or Gatwick). It is a bit out there, a 40 minute train ride from Liverpool Station on the Greater Anglia line.

No complaints... would fly out of there again provided the I was flying a carrier that serves the airport.

Gatwick was convenient and the trains were easy.

Yes, we are taking Ryanair from Dublin to London. Trying to decide on Stansted or Gatwick. We are probably staying in the Kensington area.

Depending on the time of day, Stansted is probably easier. It is a little further away, but Liverpool St station will be easier than Victoria St at rush hour. Either way you will not need to clear immigration coming into the UK which should speed up the process. I flew Ryanair this Spring and had no issues. Just be sure to purchase luggage ahead of time.

Will my regular carry on luggage not work? I know they recently relaxed their standards slightly

The limit is 55 x 40 x 20 cm and they are fairly rigid with it.

Gatwick has lots of trains to Victoria...Stansted to Tottenham & Liverpool St. Stansted can be a pain when there are service disruptions. Also, Stansted is a Regional/Charter/Cargo airport, not like Heathrow and Gatwick which has international service. Fly into Heathrow, take the Express to Paddington, once there your literally in the middle of London.
