Anybody been to Fiji?

Possible honeymoon option for us. Just briefly started looking, but flights are pretty damn reasonable right now. One can get a nonstop (out of LAX that is) for about $900.
Any reccomendations on a resort? One thought caught my eye is Nanuku. The things we are looking for are beachfront villa (preferably with a pool), and access to good snorkel/diving sites. That said, there are several of these options, but a lot of them appear a little too "campish" if that make sense.
This is our honeymoon, so we do want a little bit of a luxury experience.
Anybody been and care to offer a resort reccomendation? TIA.

Just don't make the mistake of staying in nadi. Best part of Fiji is the far flung yasawa islands. That's where I would recommend you spend most your time

Bora Bora is a bucket list trip for me, if I go to that part of the world I am going all out and going there.

Definitely wont be doing that. Pretty much defeats the purpose of going there IMO.
Looking at the beachfront pool villa here.
It's about $1100/night but is inclusive of all meals, has a private plunge pool and is steps away from the beautiful beach. Doesn't get much better than that. Beats the hell out of the Sandals "deals" IMO.

If we don't do Fiji we will probably do the Maldives on points/rewards nights. I can probably subsidize my trip there by at least 60-70% at this point.
Not exactly Bora Bora, which is absolutely on the bucket list too, but close enough for the time being.

If I go and can find a towel boy job I might not come back.

We did a Blue Lagoon cruise in the Yasawa Islands. Not what Americans think of as a cruise. It was a great experience. Back then there were no resorts in the Yasawa. If you wanted to experience them you did Blue Lagoon. At the end of the trip we spent a night at an outstanding resort in Nadi.

Looked them up, sounds pretty cool - and yes - not the trashy cruise I would imagine.
I think it would be a nice thing to break up a long trip. I wouldn't want that to be my only experience in Fiji personally Maybe get in to Nadi, head down to the intercontinental to relax for a day and unwind.. play a round of golf at there the next day...Then head off on this cruise for 3 days or so and finish off the trip relaxing on the beach, scuba/snorkeling at one of the island resorts. Could be fun. Thanks for the suggestion.

Most of those south pacific islands are indistinguishable. Not a lot to do outside of the beach.

Howcome you can do Maldives on points but not Bora bora?

We have 4 free Hyatt nights and I can transfer UR to Hyatt to extend our stay. Obviously flights go anywhere, so it's mainly the hotel limitation.
We don't have any hotel rewards that would apply to bora bora right now, outside of transferring UR.

Hyatt. Figured What Hyatt hotels are there in Fiji though?

Somebody up in here hates bora bora. @ the downvotes.

yep, hard to beat Hyatts speed of earring.
But yeah, no hyatts in Fiji. (I think there's a shitty one somewhere) but the out of pocket cost is less and there for what you get. For example, the resort I linked above - similar experience would be closer to $2k/night in BB. (Beachfront, private pool, meals included) What I've found with Fiji, is its best to stay a smaller boutique hotels - which won't ever be reward eligible. A lot are inclusive of meals, which you don't see in BB either.
Bora bora on the other hand has many chain options, we just don't have the rewards right now.
Also, the best value I saw was the Hilton on BB, which is under renovation right now, so we'll save that one for later.

Up/Down votes just don't make sense on some boards, I get the up votes on here for someone helpful or sharing great info but for the life of me I can't see why anyone would want to down vote on here.

Fixable problem if you have time

True, but we're kind of running out of time if we want to go right after the wedding.
Bora bora will always be there for next time.
