Just received word that I’ll be taking a work trip to Vienna, Austria at the end of June. Not sure how much time I’ll have to “play” but does anyone have any recommendations for that area? Sadly I don’t believe I can take my wife with me so will likely just be a quick trip

If you want to go to a cafe either be there when they open in the morning or swing by late in the evening to check the line. Every other time there will likely be waaay more of a wait than you want to deal with.

The cafe on the second story of the Kunsthistorisches Museum is absolutely gorgeous. It’s not as famous as some of the others downtown, but if you wanted to see a nice museum and scratch the cafe itch it’s a nice two for one.

I've spent 6 weeks in vienna in through the years.

The international food summer fest is amazing in front of their city hall (Rathaus). Also, the wine producers/restaurants (Heuriger) on the city fringe is a must.

The Jewish Quarter is great neighborhood to not miss.

A day train to Budapest is not a bad idea.

Steiereck was phenomenal if you like a very nice meal. One of the top restaurants in the world.

The museums are amazing. Don't miss The Kiss in the upper belvedere, though there are better overall museums.

Opera house tour is great too

I truly love this city. It's top 5 in the world imo. Elegant and underrated.

Loos American cocktail bar is how I will end my post (one of my favorite bars in the world).

Go to Demel Chocolatier.

Get a Schockobombe.

Thank me later.

Isn't the one frequented by Freud, Lenin, and Hitler still open?

It is, indeed. The lines are outrageous, but the sachertorte is delicious.

Vienna and Bratislava are the two closest capitals in the world. The train takes under an hour. Great day trip to another country.

We also took a day tour bus to Budapest Hungary.

I would recommend going to Mozart’s house & the imperial palace
