And more importantly do I need to get an adapter for my electronics

For "high tech" electronics like digital cameras, phones and laptops, you will not need a voltage converter. Their power cords will do that for you.

For dumb electronics like hairstraighteners and blow dryers, you'll need a converter or just buy a cheap dual voltage off Amazon.

You'll need a plug adapter to match their plugs.

Also, there are travel power strips that will be useful so you only need one plug adapter for the strip, then plug your electronics into he strip. Be careful to note if the strip converts voltage and plug into it accordingly

Solid thread. I actually came across it a few weeks ago, shocked the search function worked.

I'm starting my planning for may of next year. Gonna do most of the month, so hoping to do more hiking than y'all. I really want to see choquequirao as well as MP. Unfortunately my travel companion seems hell bent on doing the classic trail... and no joke having no luck with finding anybody who'll do the any of the alternative treks, but in reverse aka starting near MP and going backwards Who wants to walk to the same damn place twice? I look forward to the arguments, with a chick ~3000 miles away, while planning this.

I've definitely enjoyed seeing y'alls pic and plans, should make this ordeal a little easier.

Yeah I'm really disappointed I'm limited in my time and what I can hike.

The country is beautiful and amazing and you could spend three months their.

Cusco, MP is just one area to hike.
I will come back and spend more time in the future. Especially as I get more in backpacking/hiking

Didn't realize you were going so soon.

Just don't forget to come back and post about any thing that you run into by accident that is pretty cool.

Were doing the 5D/4N Salkantay Trek in about 6 weeks with Alpaca Expeditions.

I'm pretty stoked but pretty concerned about the altitude. Our group is all extemely physically fit but from the boards advice and others that doesn't seem to matter much. We will be taking diamox and I've already begun taking chlorophyll drops. Just not much around here at sea level to prepare for that altitude.

Would y'all recommend bringing any cash or getting cash there? Last time I was in Mexico and went to the ATM I had some trouble bc it didn't have an English version. I use my CC for everything and would prefer to do that if we can.

your Spanish must be terrible.

I think I've used Asian ATMs and just use context clues to get my money out. You can also just have an offline translator on your phone.

Not knowing 3/5 Spanish words shouldn't affect you all that much. You should probably try to learn the basics anyways.

But to your question, I never carry local currency into a country but if you are paranoid and want to be prepared, just convert $20 or $40 to sole. You should be able to get to an ATM with that amount.

So waiting on taxi and have some free time
wont get into a ton of detail but my god this country is a shite hole. Everything sucks arse. It's a third world country like op said but I wasn't ready.
The airport and Callao district are scary as frick. Certain areas of Lima are nice though.
Cusco is dirty and full of dogs and dog shite every few feet. There are tons of poor people peddling shite every where.
Trains, busses and transportation in general kinda suck, and maybe it was just because our limited time but we were rushed everyday and It was exhausting. After 10 days I am ready to get home.
I will stress again how shitty it was but something were amazing. There are some things I would do differently but I'll explain that later, as well as answer questions it y'all have any.

I've been to India so I'll be fine. I do love a good "shithole" story though. First time to a "3rd World" country?

I'd appreciate opining on the airport/Lima situation. We have an early afternoon flight from Cusco to Lima, and then 12 hours until our 3AM flight out of Lima. As of now, planning on taking advantage of that time to check out the high points of Lima.

Not many high points. The areas you want to get to are far from the airport and in traffic it will take a while. But it's kinda worth the experience because the driving is insane haha.

We had a late lunch at mangos in the lacomer shopping center in miraflores. The food was great and the view was amazing. On the cliffs over looking the beach( ask to sit on the balcony outside) so you can do the same.
After that I would suggest going to barranco and kinda walk around( forget the name of the park and street) and take in the sights, it's a pretty cool area. Because your flight is so late you could honestly hit up a bar or two for a while and maybe even eat antichucos from Javier's. Another nice view.

I don't remember what exactly you re doing and don't feel like re reading all the post. So if you want you can repost your plans and I'll give you a heads up on what to expect

Thanks, I'll try this one if I get a chance. I've got a 21 day trip to Peru in July with some serious birders. Most of it is on the Amazon near Iquitos but I'm going two days before everyone else since I've never been to Peru. Miraflores sounds like the place to be in Lima so I'll be there for 2 nights.

Did anyone do an ATV tour?

I have to book one in the valley but only see a few options.

Just curious.

Should be a cool little deal, visit the salt mines, the terrace, etc.

Now that you're back I wanna hear it.

Looks like Lima has Uber so I plan on using that from the airport to hit up Miraflores for a bit. Maybe hit some Anthony Bourdain spots if we can. I need to nail that down.

How was immigration/security all that stuff leaving Lima. You always read that 3 hour bullshite but the less time I spend in the airport the better.

My travel buddy has found a new way to burn a piss ton of money in peru. Plastic capsule strapped to the side of a mountain, 1,300 ft up... looking out over the sacred valley. Gotta get there by hiking, climbing, and a via ferrata course.

Budget wise this is totally stealing my ayahuasca adventure, but at most one of us were gonna enjoy that
