If you see one thing, make it Sagrada Familia, the incredible Gaudi Basilica. You will need to make a timed reservation in advance.

Where to stay?
I like the K&K Picasso Hotel in El Born.

My favorite meal was at Tast Ller but that is a tiny place with a set menu. For one very good but casual meal, I will recommend Tapeo, a lively and modern tapas bar near the hotel.

Stayed at the W right on the beach some years back. I enjoyed it but it’s a good 15 min walk from the hustle and bustle which I preferred. Food in Barcelona is damn amazing - favorite European cuisine hands down

Agree with Sagrada Familia. Go inside. It’s the most amazing church I’ve ever been in. All the other churches in Europe follow a predictable pattern or two. This one breaks the mold.

Stay at the El Place Hotel.

Eat at either Canate, Cinq Sentits, or Tapas 24.

Lots of good recommendations already.

I would simply add that the Ramblas area has an open market. There you will find a multitude of local fare including Iberico hams. The real deal is pretty amazing stuff. Literally melts on the tongue.

Stay-Corner Hotel
Eat-sheesh...too many places, but I'd say you have to stroll through La Boqueria at some point

I stayed at the Petit Palace Boqueria Garden which is right off La Rambla in the Gothic Quarter. This was a few years ago but the location and staff were fantastic.

Hotel Website

If you're just there for a day, get a hop on hop off bus ticket and that'll take you around to all of the major sights (Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, and the Magic Fountain.

You'll need tickets for Sagrada Familia but for many other things you can just walk up and see it. The bus allows you to spend as much, or as little, time as you want in each as they come every 5-10 minutes.

I'm not a big fan of tours, but if I had one day in Barcelona I would do the small group Gaudi Bike Tour which will terminate with a skip the line at Sagrada Familia. It includes Placa Reial, goes past Casa Batllo, into the Park, etc.

Stay at Majestic Hotel. Can walk to Gaudi sites and bars restaurants.
Go to La Sagrada Familia.
Eat at any tapas place that is busy or the concierge recommends.

Just went there on December 18th.

Mercat Santa Catarina for breakfast. Get the Iberico jamon

La Paredeta for seafood lunch

Bar Canete for dinner.

Xurrea Manuel for dessert (churros)

You have to see the Sagrada Familia. Have to. It was by far our favorite thing while we were there.

Honorable mention:
Bar Joan
Hofmann (mascarpone croissants)
La Cova Fumada (we didn’t go but heard great things)

We stayed at the corner hotel and loved the location.
