Can't. My MBP is mid-2011. All I get is phone calls, no handoff. Apparently, I can get sms texting, but not until 8.1 comes out.

My 2012 Macbook Pro has been stuck on this for about 45 mins now. I even tried restarting from the menu bar but nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Just power it off and back on. Should be fine.

I'd manually shut it down and restart it at that point.

Same here. Its almost like they were going for an OS X Leopard throwback. It's hideous.
Thinking about downgrading back to Mavericks. My cell is an android, so there wasn't much benefit to upgrading anyway.

Well that's a little harsh. But I don't particularly like it or the look of iOs7-8 for that matter. However all the new features vastly outweigh the negatives of the new look.

I'm getting used to the gui redesign, but I'm having a ton of problems with safari on both of my mac's.

I'm having a few also on my brand new Mac mini but none on my late 2013 iMac. Really odd. Haven't had time to investigate.

I don't know if y'all saw this, but there is a software tool for older macs to activate handoff and other continuity features that didn't work. Most macs need a hardware upgrade though, as well.
