my laptop died today and company ordered me a new one, and i will then ship my old one to them and they will transfer everything over. thats all good and well, problem is it will take a week or two
my dead laptop is just sitting next to me. is there anyway to get documents off of it to my desktop home computer? would a usb connection to my desktop work?
never had this happen before so just wondering. i need some access to those now.

Does the hard drive make noise? Is it the motherboard that died? If the hardrive itself is fine go get one of the docks from best buy and get all documents.

IT said Windows isn't loading. I just get system boot screen and they have to re image it

Assume for a moment the hard drive itself is dead, and they can't access it at all. Do you have any type of backup media for these files?

I have about 75% of the files backed up

if it's just a software failure, you likely can recover most of the files by connecting it to another working computer
if it's mechanical, it'll have to be sent out for recovery by specialists
