Forgive my messy setup. 4bar LTE all around my house now where no LTE existed before using just Comcast and a router.

No problems at all so far. Plug and play.

FREE.

Eta don't ask how I ended up with 2 free T-Mobile devices..

Very nice. Smart of T-Mobile to find a solution to their crappy coverage without adding more towers.

It's great until your internet goes out.

I hate Comcast but I think my internet has gone out like 3x in 10 years.

May be a very stupid question but I assume you have to have TMo to get this?

yes.

i live in a non-service area (its literally...LITERALLY a bubble around my property) and before i dealt with forwarding my calls to a google voice number after a set # of rings so i could get calls at home via internet and it was a cluster frick.

texts never reached me unless i sent/recieved them through my 'google voice' sms number or hangouts and chaos ensused.

nobody remembers/knows about my 'second' google number leading to more confusion and bullshite.

now i just trashed all that shite and i'm back to tmob phone number only and texts actually arrive now instead of waiting for me to leave the house on a beer run.

I have to have a micro cell at my home and at my office. That's how bad ATT sucks in CENLA.

Did you have to order it or is it being shipped to all T-Mobile customers?

no it was just made available last thurs and only for those who cant get a decent signal in their house.

you have to call and ask for it and if you qualify, they'll just ship it out to you free.

if you notice, one of the green lights is 'gps' which goes to a GPS antenna that came with it.

my guess is if you try to cart this thing around with you and set it up someplace other than your designated 'home' it would probably not work.

kind of like a dongle.

Interesting, thanks.

My phone works ok at home, but it's not great. I wonder if they'll send one if you call and ask...

my experience with tmo is if you call and are nice and persistent they will eventually give you anything you want.

(hence how i have both a high end router and a LTE tower both free)

CAD, how you like that t-mobile? I've about had it up to here with Verizon. Love the service, everything else is tough.

BUMP

This thing is insane. I did not have any coverage at all for 2-3 houses on either side of me.

With the LTE signal booster i can be down the driveway across the street and still have 4 bars (my wifi doesn't reach this far)

I thought they were primarily doing wifi calling now instead of microcells.

This is a brand new product. Plugs into Ethernet port on back of router.. self configures then blasts LTE all over through some magic that transmogrifies WiFi into cellular. I think it maxes out at 20 devices using LTE at the same time.

The older wifi calling has problems such as being required to log onto the WiFi network and being limited to the router range and having to buy a particular device that had that feature built in.

The really old micro tower needed 2 boxes and at least one bar of service to amplify the signal. I would get a whiff of coverage about once a week for maybe 10 minutes using that.

i bought her an iphone. works fine. what would having a stronger signal have to do with that?

I'm pulling your chain. Didn't you say you had to get her one for work because the other one never worked, had signal issues, etc?

pretty much.

the android/nexus 4 she had didn't support wifi calling which..where we live..was the only way to make phone calls or get/receive texts.

so i hooked her up with a rube-goldbergesque google phone number/texting number that using some magical carrier codes would roll over to that after a certain number of rings (or inabilty to connect to her carrier number) thereby allowing her to make/recieve calls and get texts.

of course this second number leads to confusion and people thinking her 'real' number no longer worked..etc etc

while i diligently put up with that shite because..well i set it up like that on my phone too...she was pissed (with good reason)

so iphone worked..and now that we have the LTE booster, so do my other phones.

google voice is a bit of a nightmare. its needs a major UI overhaul to be friendly or usable IMO.

Do they charge your plan for the data usage?
