It looks to me that all they've done is taken the clusterfrick tiles/Metro interface, made it smaller and replaced the start menu with that. I'll probably use ClassicShell with Windows 10 too.

People cry, but have no idea on how to download Start Menu 8.
Windows 8 is terrible, btw.

Sure. Because it is so hard to press 1 button to get to desktop.

ETA2: If you helped design Windows 8, I give my sincerest apologies. Not everything can be a homerun.

I love windows 8 but I also get that they bungled the release. The start screen should have been optional and I don't have a clue why they took away the start button.
I didn't need start 8 but I accidentally bought my step dad a computer with Windows 8 so I had to immediately grab start 8 to lower his anxiety level.
The button is back in 10 and the start screen only appears on tablets and touchscreens.
My beef is that even though they have said they aren't, I get the feeling they are going to move the OS to a yearly subscription. Funny how stupid greed can make people. They are already printing money and I guarantee you they are moving to subscription in the near future like most software out there.

Does that sidebar bother you? It jumps out every now and then when I go all the way to right side of the screen with the trackpad and come back left.
Like I said, it feels like an OS designed for a tablet, not a regular computer.

I get what microsoft was trying to do with windows 8 since I really like it on my SP3. it's all about trying to get all devices to be able to operate with the same OS in the microsoft ecosystem. to create a fluid switch between devices. their execution was just off.
but now it appears windows 10 has hit or getting closer to hitting the mark they were shooting for with windows 8. it's all a part of microsofts larger picture

They are going to do like they do with office. Make the non-subscription option so expensive and the licensing so fricked up that you almost have to buy the subscription. Microsoft is an extremely poorly run company.

Another reason to get start 8. You can completely disable the start screen corners so it won't pop up.
Spend the $5 bucks. Automatic boot to desktop, adding back the start button and removing the hot corners should more than pay you back for the major investment.

Overall, I would agree but...
They bungled the release of 8.
At the moment they bungled the Nokia purchase. They should have made sure Nokia kept working on flagship phones. Waiting almost 2 years without a release or upgrade to flagship phones is just stupid.
They should have timed it so they upgraded all of the phones with 1 year til the release of Windows 10.
Instead I'm stuck with a 28 month old phone and my best option to upgrade is a phones that is 14 months old.
I love Windows phone but it is agonizing waiting. I was damn close to jumping over to the Nexus 6.

It wasn't poorly run when Bill Gates was running it. That was a long time ago.

I think every other Microsoft OS release hasn't been up to par. Windows ME was worse than Vista and 8.

I will definitely do that.

Can I surf sketchy pRon sites without catching a virus? If not, I'll stick with Linux.

I really don't think they are, nor do they need to. The 1-year grace period for free upgrades is to try to undo the fragmentation that Windows 8 caused. Their primary OS sales have and will continue to be OEM licenses on third-party devices.
