Will long dormant cell phone pop up months of texts when it is set up?

A year ago, I stopped using one of my lines on my Verizon account. I kept the number, however.

Now, I have a free Iphone so I want to give it to my son to use (and it will be on my account using my old number). When the phone is set up, will one year's worth of text messages pop up? I really don't want him reading messages I may have missed.

Any information would be appreciated.

I think they usually expire after a month or so.

set it up and check that before you give it to him. delete them if you need to.

This seems like the easiest approach.. You can "delete all" or whatever and be done in a second.

Don't want the kid to see nude pics of his mom and see where he came from?

I believe the SMS retry period is 72 hours for all carriers. One thing that is stuck in my brain from my AT&T days. Haven't been there for about 8 years though.
