i know right. i'm patiently waiting for this to crash back down to reality. i just don't understand what is driving the pump. i get that MOBILE's utility is in you being able to pay your bill with it, but you pay the $ equivalent in MOBILE, so no arbitrage there, and its also very easy to pay with a CC, so no friction there driving demand to use MOBILE instead. its been extremely entertaining to watch tho!

Still pumping.

They seem to be adding subscribers quickly given how fast my share of the daily rewards is shrinking. My guess is some of the pump is pricing in the anticipated subscriber growth and the rest of it is just people buying the spike as crypto traders tend to do.

Unreal, its almost tripled (at one point it was) from Friday. Thinking about signing up a spare phone now that they have physical SIMs and phone compatibility looks a lot wider than when I initially signed up. I originally wanted to put this on my spare phone (Galaxy S20FE 5G) to use as a permanent hotspot for my truck but that phone didn't support eSIM.

I'll do my best.

Helium moved from their own chain to Solana, and in the process created two new tokens - IOT and MOBILE.

Your bobcats won't mine HNT anymore, they will mine IOT. Your freedomfis will also mine IOT, and if you get the cellular unit for them they will also mine MOBILE.

In addition, Helium launched their cellular service Helium Mobile, and your phone can also mine MOBILE for providing coverage data.

These two new tokens were very cheap until the last week or so, MOBILE is up about 2,000% and IOT is up 500% from 30 days ago. HNT is also up about 400%.

Assuming your miners have been working this whole time, you probably have at least 100,000 IOT ready to be claimed. Might be worth $300 or so at present. Hopefully that one keeps pumping like MOBILE.

My suggestion is to sign up for Helium Mobile right now. It's unlimited service for $20/month. My daily rewards are dropping drastically (because they are signing up new users), and over the last 7 days they have dropped from 4k MOBILE per day to 2k yesterday. I expect them to keep dropping quickly, but at the current price that could drop to 100 per day and your cell service would still be "free". Or they could drop to nothing and you'd still have $20/mo cell service.

Anyway, this pump finally has me in the black with my whole Helium endeavor. I'm about $2,500 deep on a freedomfi and 3 rak units, and if I wanted to I could cash out all my HNT, IOT, and MOBILE for ~$4k right now. I'm a little pissed that the majority of that is from the cell service that cost next to nothing, but at least all the other shite got me into it early.

I'm just gonna keep mining and holding for now.

There is still a grid. Rewards will likely always be based on providing quality coverage which means minimal overlap. I think multiple units in one house will probably earn the same cumulatively as just one unit.

I meant 100k total for your 5 units. Mine have earned about 20k each since April so I was estimating 100k for your 5 units. But since you have 2 in the same hex I would expect the 20k to be split between the two.

I think you would need this CBRS small cell for your FreedomFi. It's $1600 and I didn't get one yet either. Units around BR look to be making ~2k MOBILE per day per radio (I think you can put 3 radios on one freedomfi), which is like $10/day right now. But of course you know how fast that can change.

Any word on this new discovery mapping? I'd usually have a couple hundred events by now, but nothing mapped under the new hex mapping. According to the bubbles explaining the new system in the app it looks like we have to map 40 hexes a day, hexes are mapped every 15 minutes, hexes must be unique? thats like 10 hours of having to be in a new hex every 15 minutes. That can't be right, you'd have to drive or otherwise be constantly moving for a living to meet that. Anyone who works in an office for 8hrs and sleeps 8hrs a day would be DQ'd.

I think it's just the data is updated every 15 minutes, you might map several hexes in that time.

I will wait a few days before passing judgment on the new system. I think it will cut down on gaming and boost rewards for legit users.

Im seeing people on reddit insinuate that any user can put a hex in "cooldown" for 15 minutes, not just if you've mapped it in the last 15 min. luckily we are prob the only people in BR with helium mobile , but the people in Miami are gonna struggle, better for us i suppose though. super curious what the reward is going to be for people today since it seems a lot of people are having issues mapping hexes based on reddit responses to the change.

Oh I see, yeah the hex cooldown period not the data update period. Blog post about it says 1 hour, but my app says 15 minute cooldown. They also don't give a precise size of a hex, just that one hex is about 2 basketball courts and that 40 of them lined up is 1 mile. I guess Americans really will use any system but metric. That gives me anywhere between 130' and 200'. Maybe one "measure" is the long way (point to point) and the other is the short way (flat to flat)?

But taking the worst of all that, squaring a hex out to 200'x200', and going with 1 hour cooldown, that still gives more than 16,000 mapping opportunities per square mile per day on the low end. That's good for 400 users per square mile, so Miami proper could support maybe 20k subs and the greater metro area maybe 100k? Obviously people tend to cluster so there will be a lot of ineligible maps, but I have also way underestimated the total possible mapping opportunities. Assuming the cooldown is really 15 minutes and 40 hexes lined up is a mile, that's 40x40x96=153,600 mapping opportunities per square mile rather than 16k.

I think they'll tweak the numbers if people aren't happy.

yeah that doesn't sound too bad, but its also assuming the app accurately tracks you for that mile. we already know the app doesn't have the best record for accurately tracking. people are already reporting having driven many miles with no hexes mapped today. also saw a single person, so take with a grain of salt, mention that there is a bug in the android app. my app is definitely not working great today on my pixel 7 pro. blank on majority of attempts to open and and when it does it takes a super long time to refresh the mapping page if it even refreshes. hoping they sort everything out. just kinda frustrating they keep breaking mapping for me. i feel like i finally figure it out and am consistently rewarded, something changes and its another couple of days/weeks before I'm consistently rewarded again. I had a couple months worth of missed rewards back when they were 4k-9k a day. however, i've still got over 400k MOBILE on just $5 spent, so can't complain too much .

Yeah it seems like they always have to iron shite out after every change. Maybe part of the problem is after a change everybody keeps hammering the system trying to figure out wtf is going on.

Hah yeah that's how I've been rolling. Hard to complain about $5/month cell service (or even $20/month) especially when it pays back way more than that. Even at the lowest recently it's been paying ~$45/month and I think that will improve with the new system eliminating a lot of people gaming it. Assuming the coin continues to hold value of course.

Whelp, from 450 a day back up to 3,500. So far I like the new system!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you won't be getting that much daily. There was an issue where some mappers were not able to claim hexes (I am one of them).

LINK

No indication as to how widespread it is, but if I guess half of users were affected then your rewards should get cut in half tomorrow. Still a substantial bump though!

oh yeah I know that's only a single or couple day thing til everyone figures it out and gets it working. But it was easier to get all the required hexes than the previous system.

Mine was also not working most of the day and the helium app ate 42% of my battery by around mid afternoon. I could've used my phone as a hand warmer all morning. Anyway I tried the ol uninstall and reinstall and that fixed everything for me.

after using the new system for a week I dont see how this will have a huge effect on gaming the system. it is substantially easier for me to meet the daily threshold now than it was previously where you had to have unique mapping events at least 2 hours apart. it takes me less than 5 minutes of driving to get the 40 hexes. one could throw all their phones in the car, drive around for 30 minutes rotating which device is mapping and have all devices good for the day pretty quickly. although that said rewards are still ~25% higher than with the old system but im not sure that isn't just due to people still not able to map hexes, if its penalizing users that are usually together like families or if its actually had an effect on gaming.

Yeah I'm not sure. Of course I don't know how exactly people were gaming it under the old system, but maybe it's easier now as a legit user but harder to use the old gaming techniques?
