What skills do you use most on your Amazon Echo?

I just got my Echo last week and lately have been using it for an alarm clock, to play music, to tell me my daily news, and to play Jeopardy.
What am I missing? What do yall use your Echo for?

Time, timer, weather, traffic are what I use it for most. I plan to eventually get something like a Harmony Hub so it can control watching TV. That's when it will be useful. I can't think of how many times I've been in another room and wanted to tell Alexa to pause the TV but she can't even though she should.

My Echo is supposed to come in soon. Looking forward to hearing these responses.
I'm waiting on getting hue lights but at some point I think I'd like that feature.
I have speakers in every room of my house (ceiling speakers played thru a stereo) and I am currently working on a setup to try and get alexa to play over them. Read a review on a bluetooth transmitter/receiver that seemed to work. Basically add a bluetooth transmitter to the alexa and a bluetooth receiver to my stereo and attach them. If that works it will be 100% worth it just for that.

I'm pretty sure the Amazon Dot connects to Bluetooth stereos... may want to go that route. As for the smart home, I live in an apartment so I'm going to wait until I get somewhere where I will stay for a while before making that investment. Plus, technology will be way better and cheaper in a couple years.

Yea I got the echo for a birthday present. Just trying to find ways to integrate it into my current stuff. If I can't do it thru echo and can only do it thru dot I'll be pretty frustrated.
Just read that I should be able to pair the normal Echo as well. I'm so ready for it to come in so I can figure it all out.

I have 2 echo dots and a tap.
I cannot express enough how much I cannot wait until the echos support playing music in sync. There were rumors, but it has yet to come through

they now work as 2 way intercoms and I believe now you can play music to different spots synced.

My nieces and nephews always ask Alexa to tell them a joke.

Do you have PlayStation Vue? I'm curious about how well it controls Vue.

I do have Vue on Amazon Fire TV.
I mainly use the Hub/Echo to turn my home theater on and off and switch between XBone, PS4, WiiU, FireTV and do most other functions with the remote.

I have my dot in the kitchen and it's mostly for news and listening to music while I'm cooking.

I have my Echo in the kitchen, and I use it mainly as an expensive timer.
I used to ask it to play the local public radio station, then it started not loading, then it started playing one of the digital channels that I didn't care for.
I should use it more for Spotify, but I'm in the habit of playing that thru my phone via Bose mini.

I want to hook up my Spotify to it, but me and my parents all share the same Prime account and our Echos are clearly not at the same house. Has anyone set up a specific Spotify account to just one specific Echo?

You can set up multiple users on the Echo, so that may be something to try. Also, look into the Prime family details. My wife has the primary Prime account, but it's shared with me. You are supposed to be in the same household to share Prime accounts with family members, but not sure how hard they track that.

For the group:
I've not found a whole lot of use for it. I'd bet good money she responds to Amazon TV commercials five times as often as to me asking her something.
I've got the Phillips Hue bulbs in several places but the Hue app controls them well enough. They turn themselves on and off as needed. No use in asking Alexa to do what I've already programmed them to do.
I've got a Nest and a few Nest Cameras but they can also be controlled by app. Again the App controls scheduling. Haven't found any reason to ask Alexa anything except for the first few times as a novelty.
I run IFTT for about a dozen recipes. I mean it's kind of cool that the house turns blue when it rains. When football saturdays come up this house is going to be a disco of purple and gold blinking lights when LSU scores, lol. But similarly what's the purpose of A recipe that tells Hue bulbs what Hue bulbs can tell themselves? Or the same for Nests? It feels really redundant.
Similarly my phone volunteers how long it's going to take to get to work each day so traffic updates aren't needed.
What's this thing useful for?
