I mean it's kind of cool that the house turns blue when it rains.

when mine did that the other day, the wife turned to me with this weary "WTF" look on her face. she just said "why?". i said "rain" and she shot death darts at me. i couldn't help but laugh.

but to answer your question, its very useful when we're sitting at the kitchen island working on a project to yell 'alexa turn on concentrate in kitchen' or 'alexa kitchen 100%' and instantly all the lights turn blue-white or get really bright so we can see what we're doing without having to stop and chase down a phone.

when walking through the house and the lights are blazing its nice to say 'alexa hall 50%' and boom.

yes the lights are on a schedule but we all know thats too rigid many times.

also, if you don't use alexa, how do you ever change the light colors? surely you don't go looking for your phone each time you want to change the colors?

I had to go back and read your echo dot hate thread because these are both contradictory statements that you made when you were hating on it

Weather, lists for groceries.

Can make emergency calls.. ask my buddy video

To be fair I was trying to find something to like about Alexa and at the time it didn't support changing colors.

I also published the image of all the color combinations you could use with Alexa in that thread after they released that feature or in the wink thread.

I have an Echo dot and it makes things easier.

Set timer while I am cooking in the kitchen
Play playlists or specific songs on spotify
Pair/unpair with my soundbar for when I play music
Weather updates
commute updates
to do list/grocery list etc

Mine is in my kitchen. Being able to yell things like Alexa reorder trash bags or dishwasher detergent or laundry detergent or zip locks, etc... Is awesome.

So is being able to yell out grocery lists while I go through my fridge and pantry.

I also use it to set timers hands free while I cook. And play music.

Google Home finally did a software update to shuffle playlists in one command.

You used to have to:

Ok google play xyz playlist...music starts
Ok google shuffle..."Ok, i'll start shuffling after this song"
Ok google next

Three commands to not hear the first song of my kitchen playlist every single time. Sheesh.
