Apple didn't go live until around 2:18 and after being timed out 3 times I was processed at 2:28.
My AT&T order went through at about 345EST. I tried Apple again right before I feel back asleep at 430 and got a reservation. At 11AM I got an email saying I could complete my order and did it immediately.
It took me from then until freaking Tuesday to cancel with AT&T. Now THAT I will blame on AT&T. Most of the time I would call and get an immediate disconnect.

I'm not trying to excuse poor service, but you people are doing this to yourselves. This is a Black Friday kind of chaos and it should be avoided, not charged into.

So you didn't even cancel until Tuesday and you expect Apple to know this magically? And then you blame mainly Apple? Like I posted earlier, it takes up to 48hrs to put the upgrade back if they act right away. With this timeline, Apple didn't have time to email you. This is your fault and somewhat AT&T's fault. Nothing to do with Apple.

It certainly wasn't my fault that Apples site was FUBAR for an hour and a half. It wasn't my fault that Apple processed my order without verifying that I was upgrade eligible. And it wasn't my fault that AT&T made it nearly impossible to cancel orders.

Dude...I LITERALLY spent hours on hold with AT&T from Friday to Tuesday. I called every hour and most of the time I would immediately get disconnected.
Online support can't cancel orders. You can't email a request. There is one phone line and it was unavailable for days.
If you don't believe me, Google "AT&T premier support cancel iphone" or search for it on Twitter.
Again, what could I have done differently?

Life is about lessons.
Apple is going to have more stock for pre-orders and if something goes wrong the customer service will be unimaginably better than dealing with a damn carrier.
Apple customer service isn't as magical as it was 4 or 5 years ago, but it is still some of the best around.
Always pre-order from Apple.

I'll cop to that. But I do this every year with the new iPhone (with the exception of the 5). It's usually rough but I've never seen issues like this before.

You think it's cool to tell people that their order has been processed and put an authorization on their card when you havent verified basic information?
You don't think an email on fricking Tuesday when they yanked my phone off the palett would have been nice?
Or maybe check my eligibility again instead of canceling the order outright?
Or maybe make an exception and check it now and offer to overnight it?
Or maybe call a local store and have them set aside a 6+ for me to pick up tomorrow?
It's a moot point because obviously this is all impossible even for the mighty Apple, but you honestly think some kind of resolution along these lines is unreasonable?

Btw. I called the apple store earlier today and they said they'll have all the models available tomorrow. How many, they wouldn't say.
