Verizon up to their tricks again.

My wife and I recently upgraded our phones and received an extra 1gig apiece of data. This was a promotional deal Verizon was offering. I reduced my plan by the same amount. Here we are 6 days into the billing cycle and I am getting texts saying I have already used my 3 gig allowance. We have never been over before. Bunch of thieving bastards.

<----- Grandfathered Unlimited Plan. Bought my last phone outright ( Moto X 1st gen). They will have to take my plan from my cold, dead hands before I give it up.

I should've done that and kept my unlimited that I've had forever. Haven't gone over 6gb in two years (averaged 4), and I had an upgrade, so I naturally chose the 6gb plan. First month of the new plan, I was on target to hit 9gb, but turned off my data when I got the 90% message. My second month just ended, and I was on target to hit 15gb. I hit the 6 mark after a week and a half. I am doing nothing different, and have no social media profiles. How in the frick do I hit 15gb unless I am streaming 1080 videos from YouTube all day? My phone says I have only used 2.02gb in the past two months, but as per my Verizon usage, I would've hit 24gb.
Called customer service and they are going to monitor my usage for this next month and figure something out, because I will sure as frick end a 15 year relationship because of this sketchy business.
ETA: I rarely stream anything, and haven't used spotify or pandora the past two months. No Facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. My weather is set to update every 30 minutes, and my email the same. I browse TD, and look up random shite throughout the day, but nothing serious. There is absolutely no way I could hit 15gb doing that.

same here. I have bought all my phones outright for the last 10 years or so when they fricked me over when I had a phone go out and they refused to let me upgrade. I bought the phone outright and yet they just so happened to renew my 2 year agreement. I told them I wouldn't have a contract with them again and the first sign of them screwing me over I was taking my 8 phones elsewhere (small business account).
They have called me three different times claiming the plans that I have now are overpriced and they could save me money by combining and lumping them together. I ask them to itemize the new plan and tell me what the bottom line is and it always comes up about 50% higher than my current plans.

Can you carry your number from carrier to carrier with no contracts?

I had this happen too.
I've made it a point over the last 2 weeks to use ZERO data (or as close as I can get) and I'm still using more data than ever.
I only surf the internet, check reddit, etc. when on wifi. It isn't making sense.

You should be able to check your data settings to see which apps are using data

do you get emails, use navigation, listen to music, use apps, etc. etc. etc.
Data use goes beyond just surfing the internet.

I have done the same thing. I can turn off my data, and it'll still magically be using data as per Verizon, but be using zero according to my phone's log

I went through this same issue when I first switched over to a 4G phone with Verizon. my wife and i never used over 3 gb of data when we were on 3G phones. When I switched I bumped our data plan to 6 gb since they would not allow us to keep our unlimited. The first three months after changing we were getting warnings that we were going to exceed our data plan each month. I called to find out what was going on since my phone habits hadn't changed, but data usage did. Verizon claimed that most people didn't realize they were using more data when switching to 4g because it was faster and you could do more in less time. I called BS and complained to a manager. Wouldn't you know after complaining my data usage went back to normal (never changed how I used my phone) afterwards. I think they are thieves and will do this to anyone until they call and complain.

I will be calling them today. After researching on various websites, I see it happens quite often. Thieving bastards.

I just looked it up too, and many people are having the same thing happen, even with third party apps monitoring usage. They all seem to be having the same 2-4x more data usage per Verizon than is actually used. Some very shady shite going on

Some people are even talking class action lawsuit.

Just checked after talking to customer service the other day. It seems that things have been adjusted now, because I purposely haven't used WiFi, and am now on track to only hit 4gb this month. I have used it extensively the past three days, and am only at 0.4gb. I guess they noticed that I noticed, and adjusted it to where it should be
I'd participate in that lawsuit. No telling how many people and how many companies are getting royally fricked by this
