I plugged in my Note 4 this morning to my 2010 GMC USB port to listen to amazon prime and it said that the device was not recognized. I have done a quick search on the issue and looks like the GMC needs to read the device as a mass media storage in which the android does not do. However, these related topics I found were kinda dated 2011, 2012. Has anyone been able to bypass this issue and had success with figuring something out? Also has anyone been able to root their note 4 on AT&T network?

Try this. Settings »general »about device and tap build number until Dev options show. Go in dev options and click USB debugging and then try.

Is there no Bluetooth option? I find it easier to do that.

This model does support Bluetooth calling but not streaming of music.

Did you try the other method?

settings -> storage -> click the [...] in the upper right corner and you'll get "USB computer connections".

click that and you have 2 choices:

- Media device (MTP)
- Camera (PTP)

You might need to select Media device if its not already checked.

Also like whoslung pointed out, try the dev options as well for connecting as USB device.

Yes I tried selecting and deselecting USB Debugging and it still could not read the device.

I have clicked on both options just to see and it still doesn't read the device.

Looking like I have to go the audio cable route.

so if your phone and truck are connected via bluetooth and you play music on your phone...nothing comes out of the speakers?

I have Sync and have never had a problem doing this.

Yep nothing comes out. I have a GMC, thought the Sync was only on Ford models.

I'm not sure on your particular truck but some have the phone and music set up separately. Find and read your owners manual.

You might have to select aux on the stereo while playing bluetooth. We have to on our ford sync. It doesn't just automatically pick up music.

Also push aux while the usb is connecting.

freaking OEM shite.

i bought a $100 Pioneer unit probably 5 years ago now and it does bluetooth, 2 USB inputs, HD radio, multiple crazy color display options, AMAZING hands-free dialing, full steering wheel remote capabilities, etc. etc.

why in the world would GM & ford continue to install such shitty OEM units?

Problem is now it isn't just a standalone radio, it's integrated into the interior and a real pain in the arse to replace with something that looks good.

I have a freakin Kia that does most of this stock. Exceptions being only 1 USB input and no color settings.

I also have not tried to set my phone to USB storage, I just plug it in to charge while streaming via bluetooth.

I'm dealing with this now. Have a 2011 f150 with sync and bluetooth struggled to connect to my android tablet. Looked into changing it to a new headunit and it's a pain in the arse. No internal amp in head unit, it sends a signal to an external amp so I'd need a sound processor to do it right.

May just run all new speaker wires from doors to dash to bypass it, but that kind of pisses me off.

oh believe me..i know all too well. they've killed the aftermarket stereo business which sucks because that means we are left with subpar stereos all around.

you cant even swap a blown speaker because they frick with the amp sending odd voltage out so they wont work with normal speakers forcing you to buy a shitty way way WAY overpriced speaker from the dealer that will also blow in a couple years.

sucks arse

Yep that's why I get em with the amp less sound systems and swap out all the speakers and put in my own amps.
