Has anyone ever done this? I have relatives coming to stay want to give them something to watch and have a third receiver ion the spare room.

If the monitor has an HDMI port, you shouldn't have any problems.

Great, thank you.
If Mine does have HDMI what about sound? Do I need to use speakers?

Yes, most computer monitors don't have speakers, so you'll have to run a cable from the RCA audio out on the satellite receiver to speakers. Do you have a clock radio or anything with an Aux in? You can get a RCA to 3.5mm cable.

You'd save by using a typical am/fm radio. Just find a station all can agree to. Not that hard. Music that is w/o lyrics is usually universally liked.
Or, get a DVD player for the monitor. Then put on movies that are on dvd. This allows something good outside of the prime time slots which good t.v. is in mostly.
