So this thread has gotten huge, and it may have been covered, but has anyone built their own antenna? I currently have a 4 foot RCA in my attic, and it is split out to 3 different TV's. I have an inline amplifier right after the antenna but before the splitter. The TV downstairs has the longest run of coax to it and has trouble keeping a channel on. I was wondering if a larger antenna would cure this or if I should get a second and just hook it to that TV. As it is, I have to watch the CBS SEC games in my kids playroom. Picture never goes out on that one but it only has like 3 feet of coax to it since the antenna is on the other side of the wall.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to build a brand new one for that specific tv.

I built two. One was for the main living room and the other was a split between the other living room and bed room.

Thanks. I was thinking that the split was affecting it. The third TV set is in an old bedroom we used to sleep in but since we moved downstairs my son sleeps up there. It hardly ever gets turned on and has a Roku on it anyways since all he wants to watch is Disney Jr.

It takes a little work to get in my attic. Before I do that to take the splitter off I was thinking about building a new antenna and change wiring. I already installed a plug for the amplifier so I could get another one for the second antenna.

I would just get a Mohu and sit it behind the TV but since it is on the main floor and I live in a hilly area I'd like for it to get up pretty high so I can catch as many channels as possible.

I need advice on streaming options....

I watch sports- college football, college baseball, tennis, golf, ufc every now and then. Meaning ESPN Channels, Fox Sports, SEC Network.

Networks I frequent for shows/news: USA, TNT, TBS, History, A&E, Fox Business, CNBC, local channels. The wife loves the "Let's hate Men Network", you know LMN.

I have kids so the disney channels, etc. are big in my house. Ugh! Oh, and Sci-Fi too.

3 TV's and we are not into games, so no playstation here. We do watch some movies, but not real big on that.

What are my best options to cut the cord? Can I stream to multiple tv's from one device? I'm a novice here, so give me the tech board's simplest/cheapest streaming options given our tv viewing habits.

Edit: Oh, I don't want "dial-up" type streaming, so paying for faster speeds is ok.

I use Amazon FireTv box on the main TV and the new Firestick in the bedroom. Kodi and Exodus installed on both. Hardwired into both. I have not, however, streamed anything "live" except CBS. Haven't really tried much in the sports area, but I soon will be aggressively seeking that option out. Been using Charter's 60 mbps internet.

Just installed Kodi on my firestick using the step by step directions.

Thank you.

I have exodus, Phoenix and all wrestling installed for now.

Good live sport streaming, Live tv streaming apps? Any other suggestions on what to download?

InterstIng story about the cumulative cord cutting that's going on and its impact on ESPN. By 2021 ESPN won't be able to cover cost of existing contracts.

I wanted to post it as a separate thread here, but it's not truly "Tech" so I added it here.

I built this one.

I had everything lying around the house already.

I didn't think there was any way it would work but the damn thing does.

About to cut the cord

Should I just get the fire stick or invest fully in fire TV?

Also, how good is the sports streaming as far as getting sec network games and whatnot

FireTV. I have a stick and it feels slow. Those with the full boxes seem happy and recommend it.

I was on my slingtv trial last weekend and it was perfect on my roku. I can't comment on the less than legal streams.

Thanks! I was watching some YouTube videos (I'm moving to Metairie here in a few months) and they basically described it as, here is live TV, which can be spotty, and here is the storage of tv channels about an hour after they air

He also had some ESPN apps and whatnot so my question is (after reading through this thread for the last hour) do I still need the antenna and/or sling tv if my primary need is to watch HBO, CBS, Comedy Central and ole miss sports?

I'm a huge noob to this cord cutting world but very interested

What would you want recommend for my situation? The only channels I want outside of basic network channels are ESPN strictly for PTI and TNT for Inside the NBA. I want to be able to have a DVR set up too. Don't need HBO (parent's HBOGO). I don't want to pay outrageous prices for just two channels.

A month ago I cut the cord. When I cancelled Direct TV I made sure to ask the guy about my ATT bill. He assured me that my bill would remain the same ($52.00 for 24MPS) and that I would keep unlimited data. Fast forward I look at my bill today and not only did I lose the unlimited (now 1TB) but the bill went up to $79.00. I called and after much heavy breathing they have it under review to drop it to $52.00. Oh and the first two days of the new bill I used over 80 GBS, normally I used no more than 60 GBS.
