Anyone sign on to Sprints match deal and cut bill in half promo?
I have an old AT and T unlimited plan but if Spring will match it and cut it in half -sounds good
but what is the catch?

Their signal is terrible. That is the catch.

They spent the last few years upgrading their edge network. I don't know anyone with Sprint though so I don't know how big of an improvement it was.
Generally speaking though Verizon and ATT have vastly superior network coverage and speed compared to Sprint.

My brother worked at Sprint back in 2008-10. Employees could recommend friends/family to join at a 50% discount but if they failed to pay, the employee would have to cover the cost. It was a pretty good perk.
I enjoyed the $40 unlimited everything bill but HATED the service. Data network sucked. Baton Rouge upgrades always seemed to lag behind compared to other metro areas with Sprint.

I was with Sprint from 2012-2014, and I switched to ATT in December.
I can tell you I have no regrets, despite the higher bill. ATT Network Coverage blows the shite out of Sprint's.

I was on Sprint way before smartphones. Signed up for them when we moved to Birmingham. They were always fine for voice service. I used to travel all over parts of the southeast for work, and several times I would be the only one in our group that could make a call or send a text.
We only switched to AT&T because we wanted iPhones and they were the only carrier. Coverage was decent. I didn't use nearly as much data then as I do now, and it was just 3G so nowhere near as fast as today. But calls would drop randomly, in my house, on certain roads near where we live, and for no apparent reason at all. Just sitting at work and have full signal then it would drop. I was with them for 2 years, and when the iPhone 4S came out, I switched back to Sprint, thinking about how much better the call service was. And it was fine. We didn't have the dropped calls like before, but Data was slow. And non-existent in some places. I can expect that driving down the interstate or on little backroads out in the sticks, but in downtown Birmingham, it shouldn't happen.
So we switched to Verizon 2 years ago. Coverage is great. Data speeds are great. I've had very few issues with coverage. I would never go back to Sprint. I might go back to AT&T if the price was much better. But I use my phone for data way more than actually making calls.

We actually recently just went back to Sprint. They finally upgraded their data speeds in our area to 4G and we have a cheaper bill, plus unlimited data. Verizon still obviously has better coverage, but i'm satisfied with Sprints upgrade.

I did the cut your bill in half.
You do have to buy a new phone on a payment plan so that is part of it but my bill is still much cheaper.
The data leaves something to be desired when not around a wifi network but that is a rarity for me these days. I really only have an issue if I'm trying to play a game online and I'm not on a wifi network.
I haven't had any issues with voice or text.

IS the half off only good for the length of the contract or will they automatically renew at that rate?

No contract. You can cancel your rate plan at any time but you will still be on the hook to pay off the phone. The half off is good for as long as you don't change your plan.
Also they match your previous plan, so for me it was 2GB data per month (with rollover) and unlimited text and talk, no roaming.
