Not very up to date with TV watching besides going to the bar and watching streams online. With sling and an HD antenna, do I get mostly everything I'll ever need to watch? ESPN, ESPNU, ESPN3 (seems like there's a subscription), HBO, etc.?

I used to think yes but do a trial of slingtv and see if it meets your needs. For me, it did not. Too much buffering, can't record games, and service being spotty at times was a deal breaker.

SlingTV is a great idea but it's just ahead of it's time by 5-10 years. It'll get there in time.

You'll get the channels, but I agree with poster above. It just isn't all that great for sports. For everything else, I was fine with it. I had nothing but Sling (and antenna) for 6mos with no issues, but had to cave when football season rolled around.

What do y'all go with for sports then? Seemed like too good of a thing sigh.

Would great internet in my area help with the buffering for Sling? ESPNU?3?... The obscure channel on my Xbox One runs without any issues through the ESPN app (unfortunately the only channel).

Sling is pretty good. I occasionally get a 5 second buffer....maybe 3 or 4 times during a football game. It doesn't bother me.

you definitely need good internet, but some of the issues with espn are the sling platform itself, not internet. it does work better through the espn app if you want to use that instead. however, it just isn't as good on the big screen as cable. as for nfl, those games were all ota anyway so sling didn't matter for them.

get sling and give it a try before you cancel your cable. if you can live with it, cut the cord

I just signed up for the free trial and paired it with Hulu. So far it looks like it covers everything I need except for local channels (holding off of getting the antenna right now).

I have some buffering, but I think that's bc I have the 12mbps internet through uverse. If this week goes well, I am going to switch to Cox for either the 15 or the 50 mbps and am considering whether I want the antenna or to grab Cox's basic plan (10-0 channels).

this is ultimately why i just got cable. the internet alone was $65-75. i have both now for $120.

An antenna + Sling did the job for me for football season. I spent the extra $5 and got the sports package. I live alone and mainly just watch Seinfeld reruns & football on the weekend so it works for me and saves me ~$40/mo.

1 disadvantage is you can only have it going on 1 TV/device. I tried to have the Sling app going in 1 room and watchESPN in another and it gave me an error.

Agree with all here. The best way to watch sports with Sling is to use the login credentials for WatchESPN. Roku has an independent app for WatchESPN, so it works well on that platform.

The back end servers that Sling uses just don't seem to be up to snuff when the feeds are in high demand. I expect it will get better with time, but WatchESPN has just had more time to get it right.

So Roku is another platform that will have ESPN? The better WatchESPN one? Sling seems like the cheapest route, and has some hiccups?

I don't have cable right now, so I'm just watching some blurry NFL/NCAAF streams. I'd like to know in greater detail than "some black or white guy is throwing to another black or white guy"

You can use Sling login to access WatchESPN app on a Roku, FireTV,etc.

I've had sling for 6 months, the lagging and buggy issues are few and far between these days. It was very glitchy in the start, but sling has been constantly updating it's interface and improving the user experience.

I've got Fire TV + Kodi + Sling + HD Antenna and haven't missed DirecTV one bit.

Damn Google you scary(from the bottom of this page)

I though google ads were based on my searches? Not what's in a thread

Either way, as stated, Sling has a ways to go. Sports are not very good on there, but most everything else seems to work fine enough. There is this annoying issue of whatever show you're watching freezing up for he last 20 seconds or so, then just opens with the next show. Not a huge deal, but pretty annoying if there's something important to see in those last few seconds.

If you don't mind a delay and some stuttering of the picture, then you might like it.

It needs some work but I am still happy I got rid of cox and went with sling for the football season.

I almost never used sling. Just used the sling account to use Watch ESPN.

Watch ESPN also has some delay and stuttering / sticking issues.

Jumping from game to game, is not going to be a smooth transition like cable.

Not for everyone, but good enough for me.

Yeah, I use my sling login on my WatchESPN app on my XBone. The WatchESPN app works pretty well(and certainly much better than the Sling App)

Nice. Thanks for all the help everyone. I'll try Sling + Xbox One + HD receiver and go from there

I have Sling and it works great. I've streamed four games simultaneously in HD with no buffering problems at all.

That said, I have a 250mbs download speed, your mileage may vary.

Good luck trying to watch the walking dead on Sundays. Everyone and there mother in the country is watching it and it buffers 3-4 times an episode. It's the only channel that does it.

Sling buffered way too much for me and the audio and video were rarely synced up. I dumped it pretty quickly.
