My boss gave me a voip phone for my home office and I need to get a cable ran from my router to my office as it is not in the same room. I could probably do it myself but why bother if he is going to pay for it.

My question is will I even be able to find someone to run a single cable? Anyone know someone in Baton Rouge that might be interested in this small job?

Thanks in advance.

Any electrician can pull the cable but most of them don't know jack shite about ethernet wiring. When I had mine done I watched in wonder as the electrician stripped about a foot of insulation off the cable that was going into one of the wall receptacles. He started to punch down with a knife. I had to show him how to use a punch tool and let him borrow mine.

Personally, I'd charge you for a half day to run one cable. It just wouldn't be worth my time otherwise. Good luck.

Will probably be tough to find someone to do one run. Maybe an electrician? I'm guessing you have attic access along the way from the router to the office and not all exterior walls?

How is your wireless signal to your office? I have an apple airport express that I tie into my wireless that outputs via Ethernet. I use it when I need a hardwire connection when working on things at home. Not sure how it would perform for VoIP but wouldn't hurt to try.

VoIP is not that demanding of bandwidth. This or one of the power line adapters would probably work just fine.

This. VoIP is Kbps. And QoS on your router can/should prioritize those packets as well.

Yes, something like this should do the magic -

LINK /

We have one at home and it works just great for even streaming movies :). Cheaper and easier to relocate.
