So while everything is open I would like to maximize my set up. I'd like to do this as cost as efficient as possible. I've been reading as much as I can, but lay it out layman. I appreciate the input. I'm in Nola and will be subbing the work directly to installer, so recommendations welcomed there as well. I'd like to purchase any cabling, hardware etc independently of installer. Drop some knowledge on me.

I will be dedicating a coat closet in the living room for housing components. I just cut the cord and figuring it out. I will be streaming tv to (3) interior tv's and (1) outdoor.

Things that will be used. Attic antenna (need to order one), fire stick (on order), hulu and maybe netflix subscriptions in the future. Live viewing focus is sports.

I need a new modem, router and surge protector.

I will have wifi.

Do I need a DHTC? Can I easily have a DVR through this? No DVR is a cord cutting adjustment.

I plan on running ethernet cables to the backs of all tv's. Does each tv need a dedicated fire stick? How does fire stick have a hardwire connection?

I also plan to have (2) additional ethernet cables run. One to office and one to son's room for hard wiring computers. Should each room have (2) ethernets while we are doing it?

Harmon remote.

---

I want to have a home camera system that DVR's and provides a quality picture day and night. All cameras outdoor. 1700 sq ft "squarish" shaped home.

I'd like to be able to view the cameras live on my TV at a moments notice. How can I do this?

My alarm system is old, so i'd like to revamp that as well. Cell unit in use, no land line.

This is our home for the next 20+ years.

Good luck finding a quality person if that is how you want to approach it.

I'd run 2 cat6 and a coax to each place you want a TV.

I'd run at least a Cat6 to each place you need a camera. I'd run a siamese too but only because I would always be playing around with my set up.

Run an addition Cat6 to whatever TVs you want to view the cameras on.

Is it all hard wired now ?

I would go with a system that could handle doing a few automation features since you're not doing a control system.

The alarm is hard wired now in the sense that there are 2 old keypads, door and window contacts through home. The unit is in a hall closet and looks like a rats nest.

When i build my home I will be placing a small piece of plastic tubing on the inside of each outlet stud space to make for easy wall fishing, then I can add or replace whatever.

ETA:: common sense but if you do your own wiring, make yourself a nice loop up top to have plenty of extra slack.

minor detail, but if you are cutting the cord and will watch tv 100% from media boxes, don't get a fire stick(or roku stick for that matter), spend the extra money to get the regular sized boxes. i have 2 main tv's with roku 3, and a third tv i barely use has a roku stick and fire stick(both of which i got on sale) and i would rave rather spent double the $$$ to get a roku 3 or regular fire tv.

Since you will be wiring the house for ethernet, you should plan on having your media boxes connect to the internet via ethernet rather than wifi, none of the stick devices have ethernet.

What TigerWise said. I wouldn't consider a project like that.

Over-the-air TV is uncompressed MPEG2 so you will need a wired ethernet connection. Wireless is okay for the Rokus which are MPEG4 compressed.

Plan for ventilation in your closet. If you're running a PC or an amplifier in the closet you're probably going to need forced air of some type. If not you might be able to get by with just a louvered door.

The DVR for an OTA system is a major decision. I used Windows Media Center for several years and was pleased with it until Microsoft deprecated WMC and in fact broke the program guide to the point that it was unusable. I recently replaced that with TiVo gear and have been very, very pleased with that choice. I'm supporting four TVs with the TiVo system over wired ethernet. The TiVo includes all of the major streaming services which means you don't need the Roku at all.

I agree, pay a qualified installer to use the materials that they are familiar withand get it done right the first time.
