Plug one into socket.

Plug in ethernet cable.

Plug other one into socket.

Plug in ethernet cable.

Little tiny 1's and 0's travel over power lines like magic.

Stay away... Go with MOCA... It uses cable lines instead of power lines. Much more stable and reliable speeds.

I didn't know but they are very susceptible on the placement of your outlet/receptacle. The farther and more "noise" between the adapters, the less bandwidth (internet) you will get.

Do not place them on a surge protector. Speeds will crawl or won't connect.

So powerline adapters can give you a hard-wired connection at another outlet spot away from your internet source that is not as good as the hard-wired connection at your internet source but better than wifi?

Whats your advertised throughput from your ISP? What are you currently actually getting from a hardwired source?

I'll give you an example at my house.

I have 100 Mbps down
In my office, I have my modem and the powerline adapter.
About 40 ft as the crow flies across the room, I have my powerline adapter. I hooked up my Nighthawk to it so I can get better coverage through the house because that is centrally located. I ended up get a MAX of 24 Mbps. It had a surge protector in the same outlet ( powerline was not connected to that) and electronics on the protector. I moved it 2 outlets down and got 45Mbps down. No other electronics were on the outlet. I then put the Nighthawk in the office and now I get 115 Mbps down on wifi everywhere. I only use my powerline adapter now to put my ATT microcell near a window.

Yeah powerline adapters CAN be great, but its such a crapshoot. There are a lot of factors that go into the performance that I think it has to be looked at as a trial basis only. I would only recommend purchasing them from a retailer that will not give you shite about returning them for a full refund.

They make you believe that you will get full speed no matter where you put it.

I guess I lucked out because I get nearly 100% of my advertised DL speed when I'm connected to my powerline adapter via ethernet cable. My modem is downstairs and there are several walls between the 2 adapters. It all comes down to your circuitry so it may be a gamechanger or completely useless. Worth a shot for the price IMO
