I get it that unlimited photos and videos are free. But I travel a bit and thought it would be cool to download movies to view on the daydream VR. I can't imagine compatible movies/apps not requiring a ton of space so figured I'd pay the extra $100. Also increases the resale value of the phone on the back-end by $50-$75 on top of a base version, so my net incremental cost isn't that much more.

I 100% agree.
CAD is a known Apple hater, and in the iPhone 7 thread he was making fun of everyone who ordered a 128gb phone.
His claim was that Apple was behind in their technology and there was no practical purpose in having that much physical storage on a phone because you should be able to upload everything to a cloud (which you CAN DO).
It's just funny how he didn't bring it up when Google released their phone with the exact same storage options.

Also, tons of other things - like music. You can stream all you want most of the times, but a lot of times you just can't. Download spotify playlists offline and you're good. Also may not have access to WiFi to upload recent videos/photos to the cloud all the time. CAD must not travel very much and must not realize that a lot of times, you have no access to the internet.

Exactly. All of my music is streamed through Spotify, but if I'm on a plane or don't want to use data, I can now download as many songs as I'd like to be stored locally on the phone. I didn't have that luxury before.
I upload all of my photos/videos to the Amazon cloud. But if I want to download an album to make it easier to show people, I have that as an option.
While it's possible to get away with having a 16gb phone and relying on streaming/cloud sources to store everything, it makes it easier when you have the option to store things locally on your own device.

I received an email from the Google Store, ordered through Project Fi, saying that the code will be emailed out approximately 4 weeks after phone has shipped. didn't say anything about me having to activate my Project Fi sim card first.

It is so you cannot return the Pixel within the return period and keep the headset. It is stated in the email.

I am hopeful that orders will start being shipped by late this week, i.e. 10/20 - the day that Verizon is expected to have the Pixel and Pixel XL in stores.

I can verify that it works in Holland, the UK, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Iraq as well as it does in Alabamastan.
As I said though, if you pick up an Iranian tower all you are going to get is the message that states " Welcome to Iran, Project Fi has no support in Iran...". to paraphrase.

From what Im gathering, the first early order batches from google yes. All Verizon orders look to be shipping yesterday and today for delivery ON the 20th (the day they will be in the stores). So the earliest you will see google store deliveries will be Saturday by my estimations. Majority will be mid to late next week.
