our 48" LCD is starting to die to the point that the wife wants a new TV . Haven't bought a new TV in 10 years so looking for a bit of advice. Looking to purchase around the 4th of July to hit some sales.

Looking for 50" - 55". I don't think the wife will go any higher than 55 and i actually think 50 might be the right size for the space.

Current setup is OTA signal running through a Tivo Bolt w/ subs to Netflix, Amazon Prime and SlingTV running through an amazon fire stick.

Budget (if Memorial day sale prices are any indication) is $700 - $900.

TIA

ETA: added size for TV we're looking to buy.

I'm partial, but my 55" Sony Android tv has Netflix, hulu, watchespn, Slingtv, and Kodi, and also has an Ethernet port to hard wire in if you want to. Also has google play so you can add apps to it when they become available.

Firestick sucks by the way. Get a Firetv or Roku or Appletv, something that responds to your commands when you want it to instead of waiting around for the firestick to recognize you're trying to change the channel.

I say go with a Sony or Samsung if you want a more all in one tv with a great picture.
If you don't care about the smart parts of the tv, then just get a Vizio.

SlingTV is kinda laggy - i wasn't sure if that was the firestick or Sling's fault. How does sling work on your Sony?

It's the firestick.

it works great for the most part. Only issue I have is I have to go into the apps from the setting page from time to time and "force stop" b/c sling won't open sometimes. It's like when you have too many open apps on your tablet. You've got to hit the button and swipe all the apps away to make the tablet work faster, which is what needs to be done on this tv from time to time.

The tv is literally a big tablet that isnt' touchscreen.

I would consider the new Vizio P50-C1 - it's right at $1000, but would be a relatively future proof set - at least by today's standards. You do not get a tuner with the new P-series, but that shouldn't be a problem as you're running your OTA through the Tivo which tunes it for you.

You can step down to the M-series and get the 50" M50-D1 for $850 or the 55" M55-D0 for $1000. An excellent value, but not as future proof as the P-series.

At your size and budget, if you go other than Vizio, you're getting into 1080p and off-brand choices.

No one ever regrets getting a bigger tv. So go with 55 or bigger if you can

I'm the 50-55" range you can pretty much have your pick of most 4K TVs now. All depends on what extra stuff you want it to have

i don't need a ton of extra stuff. Access to slingTV would be the only extra I can think of. At the same time I don't know what "extras" entail.

Since I'm OTA do I need 4K or will 1080 work?

look. I've had em all. Samy's,Vizios,LG's,Sony's and Panasonics. By far the Panasonic gt50 Plasma sitting in my living room is the best set i've ever owned. Had to purchase it thru the Best Buy Magnolia store. They don't make them anymore so my next suggestion is a Samsung .

OP, I would stay away from any vizio smart tv. Their DLNA is severely lacking and the user interface is the worst i've ever had to deal with.

And get the Nvidia Shield with the voice activated remote.

I don't know what this is or what it does - can i trouble you for a 20 words or less primer? How will it work with my TiVO Bolt?

ETA - anything to these curved TVs or are they just a gimmick?

It's one of those big box store model numbers. I think it's actually a 6290.

Although the 6300 is much better
