Need advice on something that I'm not smart enough to figure out.

Replacing my very old tv (no USB or HDMI) so l can drop Directv and get content online. Family of four, regular tv viewing habits (shows, sports, movies).

Looking at year-end sales, and I've got two tvs I'm considering: TCL65 or LG B8 OLED. The difference in the two on display is noticeable, as is the price.

Amazon prime and Netflix have 4k content. I'll also have one source - hulu/sling/roku/Apple tv/etc. Comcast cable internet.

Will the OLED look as good on my wall as it does in the store with my internet and 4k sources? Will the non-4k sources look "poor" on the OLED, and will non-4k look different on the TCL vs the LG?

Basically, trying to figure out if the OLED will be worth the extra money once it's on my wall.

I'm sure the TCL is a fine tv, especially considering the price. If you go with it, I doubt you'll be disappointed. However, if you can comfortably swing the price for the OLED, I promise you won't regret it. In my opinion, it stands above others when comparing picture quality.

ETA: BuyDig.com is an authroized LG retailer. However, if you call to place an order, they will often discount the retail price fairly significantly.

A 4k display is going to upscale everything to 4k. One thing that separates the cheap display from the more expensive ones is it's ability to do this. You get what you pay for in this category of products so if you are concerned about the picture quality of non 4k content I would go with the better display.

The reason to get OLED is the black levels. I would take a 1080p OLED over a 4K LCD.

I moved to the DFW area last year and stayed in an apartment until my house sold. I bought a TCL 55" to use as a temporary TV. The TCL is a fine TV and I was not disappointed. When my house sold, I brought back my LG B7 Oled and the difference was night and day.

My OLED (B7A) has native app for Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sling, Plex, Vudu, Fandango and also YouTubeTV. If you want a TV that does it all, and has a great HD to 4K upscaler, then go with the LG OLED.

I have the LG OLED65C8. In a light controlled room I'm hard pressed to find any fault with the image. It's the best display I've owned by far. If your room is light flooded you might want to consider another TV.

I have a TCL tv that came loaded with Roku.

I love it.

My next tv will be a TCL with Roku.

I have the B8 and it looks amazing. Oled has better viewing from angles so keep that in mind as well.

Paid 1700 for a 65 inch through ebay. Beach Camera/ buy dig was the seller. Factory New.
