Wait, you have to use wink's servers to control things? The wink hub doesn't handle it all??
Pretty much. They just released an update that supports local control but robots are still routed through the cloud.

Played around with some IFTTT integration today.

Ended up setting a geofencing recipe to change the status of a dummy switch I had set up. I can now trigger other events based on those switches. For example, I've got it set up to automatically text the wife when I'm leaving the office at the end of the day. Lot's more possibilities I'm seeing with IFTTT. Once I get a thermostat that I can control, I will set it to automatically adjust the temp if both of us leave the house.

Can anybody give me some guidance with this? I bought the same USB stick and door tripper as the OP. I plug the controller into my PC and I see nothing. I *think* i linked the controller with the device, but I'm clueless on what to do next. I downloaded Domoticz but it doesn't see anything, either. What am I doing wrong?

i've found geofencing to be the most useless feature of all.

both houses i've lived at cause the trigger to go off 10-15x a day; many of the triggers happen when my phone is just sitting on my nightstand. probably comcast going down for a second or something but regardless, the feature needs to take that into account instead of just assuming you've magically beamed away and back to your house in the space of 20 seconds.

unless/until the geofencing allows you to manually set the boundaries or extend the time for assuming you have left/entered the fence, i don't see the point.

Do you have the drivers installed? if not here is the link: support page

I run HomeGenie. If you can't get Domoticz to find your z-wave stick after driver install, try HomeGenie. Then look at this page, guide, and see if it sees your USB stick.

Geofencing apps like Tasker allow you to set your fence manually. So if you want something to trigger within 1, 5, or 10 miles from your home you can.

I'm too new to call it useless or even a must have. I'm looking at possibilities right now and I have it triggering a dummy switch to tell the system if my wife or I are at home. I can then trigger or suppress events based on those switches or even send notifications if that status changes. Could be useful when the kids start going out on their own. Or even automatically adjusting the a/c based on if both of us are home or just one of us. So far, it has worked relatively flawlessly and I have it squashed down to about 100m. The only time it didn't update was when I closed out all my apps and ifttt wasn't monitoring my location anymore.

What OS are you running? Windows should show up as a COM port and it should only show the com port that is available. If it's Linux, it may show up as a USB device or an AMA. You would have to select whichever device your machine has assigned to the z-stick. It was USB for me. Either way, once you add the hardware, you should see a "Setup" button for the Zwave device in the list. Clicking that will bring up the Zwave Node screen. Clicking the Management pull down at the top of the list and selecting "Include Node" will put the stick into Inclusion Mode. Then just pull the battery in the door tripper for 5 seconds and when you put it back in, it should add the node.

Found something that could be very interesting tonight. A bunch of people are basically hacking the Amazon dash buttons to do everything from tracking their kids poops to ordering pizza. If I can find a way to integrate it into Domoticz, I might just have to stock up. Hard to beat $5 for an internet connected button.

How does Homegenie work with Kodi? I'm having some issues getting Domoticz to play nice with it and I didn't mess with it at all when I had HG running

don't know. I don't run Kodi. Are you trying to get either Domo or HG to control Kodi away from the house?

Not while I'm away from the house. I'd rather use a single app for everything if I can and Domoticz has a remote feature but it doesn't work for me. Just curious if HG had something. Might try to side load it and see what's available.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't natively. HG is more geared towards single action widgets and scripting. If you know how to code and Kodi has an api, you could always write something to work with Kodi.

If it was me however, I'd prefer to use Kodi to do interface with whatever program and do my home automation. There was once some software that someone had developed for WMC to do just this. No clue if it is still actively developed or it's functionality.

yeah my experience is limited to wink's implementation..which of course is suspect at best.

i want it to work because i have lots of use cases but when i set it to 'email me' when the event fires and i wake up to 15 emails in my inbox i aint using it to automate shite.

Update:

I'm running Windows 10. I tried to install the latest drivers from their website, but it says they are older than the drivers I have for the device. In Device Manager, I see the warning icon on my "Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge).

The device status says:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

In the events tab, I see:
Device USB\VID_10C4&PID_EA60\5&1a3449c0&0&12 requires further installation.
Driver Management has concluded the process to add Service silabenm for Device Instance ID USB\VID_10C4&PID_EA60\5&1A3449C0&0&12 with the following status: 0.
Driver Management has concluded the process to add Service silabser for Device Instance ID USB\VID_10C4&PID_EA60\5&1A3449C0&0&12 with the following status: 0.

Anybody have any clue as to how to proceed?

i would uninstall current drivers through device manager and then try to reinstall

don't know if that would fix.

by the way, which drivers did you download? the SiLabs ones or the UZB ones? just trying to rule things out.

I downloaded the Windows Drivers below (they don't have an option for Win10, but I assume these are the correct ones):

Windows Drivers (XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8/8.1)

Looking at the files, it appears they are SiLabs.

Mine was pretty much plug and play and I didn't have to manually install any drivers. Do you have any other devices that have a warning on them in the device manager? Would you happen to have any other machines that you could plug it in to and see if it picks it up on them?
