o idea where people are getting this from. I've had Sling for a month and have not had one buffering or image quality issue.

i had it with the same setup and had buffering issues sometimes. it depends on the popularity of the feed. big sports events on espn were the worst in my experience. they may be beefing up their system to address the issue tho

Maybe so. I watched all of the college football playoff games without issue, so perhaps theyve made quality improvements.

So a dumb question, but I can get this and try it out without it messing with anything else right? I'm about to buy one.

I paid for 3 months of Sling to get the Roku 3 for $50 (which I was planning to buy anyway), and my experience has been very positive as well. I have 100Mbps Internet and haven't dealt with any buffering, and I'm happy with the picture quality. I probably won't keep it because we pay for Directv at my dad's place, and have WatchEspn, HBOGo, etc. available to us through our account with them... But it isn't because I'm not happy with the service.

OP , if it isn't against the rules, can you link the one you bought? I'm looking on ebay, and there are quite a few of them out there. I want to be sure I get one that's legit.

How is it different than streaming a movie off one of those random websites?

Instead of going to an ad-ridden website, kodi just pulls the video stream into a sweet interface for you to use. Unless you have an extreme need for live tv, it will meet all of your entertainment needs. Basically similar to using Netflix except you're just pulling streams off all those websites.

I've read that it will, and there's a disclaimer on the eBay ones for sale that you don't update the system.

This is not true at all.

Everything on Netflix works every time.

Some things on Kodi work some of the time.

It's a big pain to install and maintain, it's not organized at all, it's the wild west and OK if you like hacking around on your computer or device, but it's nothing like Netflix, Amazon or other 'real' streaming service.

Yes, you can get everything you'd like for 'free', but you better be willing to work for it in spending a great deal of time making it work, and then it's often in lower than low resolution.

cheers!

Well that depends. If you put something like Showbox on Kodi then in can be very much like Netflix/Hulu. Showbox is much more organized than most Kodi video streaming applications and and although you can use a secondary link, I have never had to use that feature as the primary one has always worked. It seems like Showbox has much more content than Netflix/Hulu and you can also favorite tv shows and movies. The only things I have found lacking in it is it doesn't make recommendations based on what you have watched (although if you choose a movie similar movies are shown at bottom), it doesn't organize movies by categories, and there is no autoplay next episode option when watching tv shows.

I'm not championing Kodi or Showbox and I actually have a Hulu account and a Netflix acount but I'm just showing it can be a bit more organized if you know how to make it.

I use Kodi with my Google Nexus Player. Got it for $34.99 on sale at Best Buy in November. Kodi is available in the Google app store, so you just download it to the device. Then you do have to decide what repository to use and choose your addons.

I also have Netflix, Hulu+, Amazon Instant, etc. I mainly use Kodi for those shows I can't find on those services. For instance, was watching Mad Men on Netflix, but Netflix doesn't have the final 4 or 5 episodes, so I just finished watching the show on Kodi.

I picked one up also...didn't get the deal you did. I paid $189.99 shipped . Guys don't seem to be making much profit selling at this price, the item itself is 149.99 + Tax puts you at $165. Then add on shipping and eBay fees.
