Nest outdoor cams. Need the pros and cons

Anyone have any experience?
We've had some issues in the neighborhood lately and looking for a camera system. Already use the Nest thermostat and figured what the heck, look at the cameras.
Any help is appreciated. TIA

I've got one it's great. I'm the least handy man you'll ever meet and I hooked mine up. I've had zero issues, wireless cams only record upon on motion. The nest cam records constantly.

Did you purchase the Nest Aware service?
Am I right in saying that you don't have to purchase it unless you want to play the video back?

Yeah. You get 3 hours of playback without it. 10 days for ten bucks a month. 10 covers all three of my nest cams.

Look at canary flex too. Believe you get 24 hours free split between all cameras.

Ah. How much data do they eat up in month?

I just switched from charter to AT&T 1 Gbps. With Charter I never tracked Gbs. Right now I've got 173 Gbps uploaded and about the same download with 11 days left. But I'm unlimited with AT&T fiber.

See, that's where I'm caught up. I have CableOne (AT&T fiber not offered to private individuals yet, only businesses here) and we have 300Gb for the month.
Pretty sure we would eat through that

This! I've got the original Canary, and I swear by it. They've got the best free plan out of all of the smart cams that I've researched, which I believe were all of the major name brands.

So basically I would have to review the tape every day before a new loop starts?

What are you trying to see? How far of a shot is it ?

I bought this for the lake house. Has 16GB of built in storage so you don't need a "cloud". Review and save the videos on your phone or PC. Seems to work fine for me as a one camera security system. IIRC mine is only set to record when motion is detected. Erases the oldest footage when new footage is recorded. Not sure how long you would have in a more active environment to get the videos off.

Yeah I'm happy with my 3. Set up couldn't be simpler and the online and phone apps are well done.

Following this thread.
I thought you had to pay more per month per camera, so it's only $10 and you can have 3 cameras?
Also, I just have basic high speed (20 down), is that sufficient? I don't really need it running when I am home, can you turn it off so it doesn't slow down when we are using it for other things?

I thought you had to pay $10 per camera, but all three of mine have been covered with the $10 for months now. I also have a Ring Doorbell which is great. I don't pay for the cloud on that but my house is covered on all fronts. Answering your door from your phone is amazing.

Mainly just under the back porch and carport. Both are about 400sqft each

Came across those too. I'm looking for something that will send notifications when movement is detected and something I can check whenever I please from my phone

I bought a nest camera for our nursery and it has been great. My MIL gave me an outdoor camera for christmas, but I'm still on the fence about putting it up for a few reasons:
1. I'd like 3-4 cameras total outside, which would be rather expensive if all were the exterior Nest Camera.
2. They require power and are wireless. I think a wired PoE solution may be better because all I'd need to do is run ethernet to each point where I'd like a camera.
3. I don't like how Nest forces you to purchase a subscription to utilize the recording feature. As far as I know with our current camera, you can't actually replay video from 3-5 hours ago, you can only see screenshots of motion/sound. (correct me if I'm wrong here).
That's why I am really contemplating selling the current Outdoor Nest camera I haven't set up yet and purchasing a 4 camera system to set up outside. I did some rough math and figured for a decent system with storage space, new switch for PoE (which I just bought already for other purposes), cable, etc. would run me about $1000. And I'm still debating whether spending that amount on outdoor security camera is actually necessary.
Sorry, I go back and forth on this.
To add to this, I installed two of these at my grandparents house on their front and back porch. They get a ton of notifications on sounds/movement throughout the day, from trees swaying to squirrels running around. I've had to turn off notifications on all but one device because it was annoying them so much. So keep that in mind.

You will get better cameras if you go that route. Nest cams are great for checking in on the kids or dog but protecting the front of your property I would go the traditional security camera route.

That's what I've figured, and why the Nest Cam continues to sit in it's box six months later. My wife is pissed because she thinks I don't like the present her mom gave me. I just can't make a decision and don't want to drop the extra money on a camera system right now.
I also don't want to run cable to the far corners of my house.
