Buying one for my dad for Father's Day and need some help on things to buy and consider. It will be used mostly at the fishing camp and some other outdoor hunting applications. Price isn't really an option but let's keep it reasonable. Also, I don't have a gopro so something with a camera is what I'm looking for. I'm sure this topic has been discussed a lot, so my apologies if I'm beating the dead horse. Thanks

Do you want to have manual control with joystick or one that automatically follows you?

I'd wait for the Lily (pre order $499) unless you want to drop $1500 on the Phantom.

I'd rather the tried and true phantom or something similar. Looking at the Phantom 3 with the camera

If you're looking at that type of functionality the Phantom 3 is king around the $1,200 mark.

The Iris is also an option. You can pick and choose what options you want.

If you want to go crazy, Inspire 1 is absolutely amazing.

ETA: You can probably snag a Phantom 2 Vision+ for a decent deal on Ebay.

Phantom/Lilo/Solo. Really like the Solo at the moment. Can't really go wrong with any of them if price is no problem. Also recommend picking up an Ominus for flight practice if you or he are new to flying quads.

Just ordered the Phantom 3. Got the one with the better camera and it came with an extra battery and a case for around $1500.

It's my undertsanding that the Lily is "follow me" only and does not have a free-flight controller.

Go with the 3DRobotics Solo. Lily doesn't offer gimbal stabilization or FPV. Don't have any experience with DJI but haven't heard great things about their customer service. I'm a scratch builder and have built a few custom quads with 3dr parts. One of the parts was faulty and 3dr was great about getting me a new one. If you go with the Solo you'll need to buy a gopro (which I know you don't want to do but the ability to detach it and use it for other things is a huge plus) and I'd also suggest a gimbal. It's amazing the smoothness of the video when using a 3 axis gimbal.

info on 3DR Solo

store to order Solo and gimbal

looks like delivery will take 6 weeks because of demand BUT best buy is selling them so you might get lucky and find one in a store.

I've watched a LOT of videos on the P3 the last few days but still don't know if the professional is worth it over the advanced. Thanks

ETA: I meant the link to that deal with extra battery and case. Looking on Amazon but they're much bigger packages with stuff I'm not interested in.

Going with the Phantom 3 pro w/ 4k camera. A lot of sites including DJI are on backorder for a couple weeks but I found a site with several in stock. Nexgendrones.com

Seriously...Before you spend 1200$, are either one of you proficient with these things...?

Nope, but both my dad and I are adults and understand to take things slow. I've watched plenty of flight tutorials already and it doesn't seem like rocket science. I'm not just gonna start pressing buttons man

I hope my kids spend that much on me for father's day once they get jobs.
