Probably getting time to replace mine. I have had to reset it at least 5 times in just the last 4 days. My current one is a Belkin. Normally I never have more than 3 devices connected at the most.

In the market as well. Crappy AT&T one drops signal 20x a day.

ASUS RT-AC68U 801.11a/b/g/n/ac 1300mbps Dual-Band Wireless
Its pricey, but the best router I've owned. Has been flawless in my home. Multiple laptops, tablets, cellphones, Netflix and gaming with no issues.

Price point.
This. You can spend a lot of money on an ac router but the performance is going to be determined by the capabilities of the network interface card in your downstream devices. Very few of those support the ac standard and, as a matter of fact, a lot of them are not even dual band. Wireless n routers can be picked up at bargain basement prices right now and would probably serve you well for years to come.
For example, a D-Link wireless N900 router refurbished is selling for less than $25 on e-bay. Take an inventory of the devices you want to connect and let that determine what your needs are.

If you're not scared about buying used, I just got the T-Mobile version of the Asus RT-AC68U for $65. I haven't had a chance to fool around with it too much yet, but working great so far. LINK

were you able to flash rmerlin firmware?

I was able to flash rmerlin 376, which is a couple of years old. I wasn't able to flash the latest 380.61 yet. Hopefully I can find some guidance on bringing in up to the latest version.

Awesome! How hard was it? That guide made my head spin.
376 is a pretty solid merlin build. I only updated from that a few months back.

It wasn't as hard as the guide made it seem. I had trouble finding the file to downgrade the firmware to allow Telnet. I found it in the files linked in the description of this youtube video. I used the CFE.exe method, so I didn't need to fool with the hex editor. I wasn't able to install the latest Merlin version, so I used the one in youtube files as well. I probably spent a couple of hours doing it, but now that I know what I'm doing, I could do it again in probably 30 - 45 minutes.
If anyone is interested, I can try to clean up the guide a little.

3. Set static IP, Enable Telnet (You will need to enable telnet on router after each NVRAM reset)
4. Reset NVRAM (Method 2) – This is a factory reset
5. Follow section 4
6. Follow section 5 using Automatic Detailed instructions
7. Copy mtd-write to USB drive (Version 2)
8. Follow section 6
9. Reset NVRAM (Method 2)
10. Reboot into CFE miniWeb Server
11. Flash Asus or Merlin firmware
12. Configure router
I think these are all of the files that I used. Hope this helps. Files
