Need new cellphone advice

Currently have a Samsung S4 and need to upgrade. I see Verizon doesn't subsidize phones anymore so is it better to just buy a phone elsewhere or go through Verizon? If I buy elsewhere, how do I go about activating the phone for use? Is it as simple as inserting the SIM or is it more involved? Do I need a newer SIM? Thanks.

Nexus 5x and just put your sim card in there and activate. I believe it is a nano sim so you may need a new one. Att just gave me a new one for free and that was the end of that.

If you buy elsewhere just make sure it is compatible on the network you are using. Swappa is a great place to buy used or like new phones and save money.

Is there a phone that you are eyeing? I have Verizon and have been off contract for a couple of years. The nexus doesn't always play well with Verizon, so not sure about the current version. I'm waiting to see what this year's Moto X Pure is going to offer. Cheaper than buying the Moto Droid Turbo from Verizon, but very similar phone specs with a less bloated software.

No particular phone just yet. I'd like it to be the same size as my S4 or not too much bigger. I don't need anything cutting edge as I don't plan on rooting it. Any suggestions?

You can get it direct from Motorola. Amazon will have it, and best buy will probably have it as well if you want to see it in person.

Depending on you phone plan Verizon will give you a discount of $10 or $25 per month for not being under contract. Makes no sense not to buy the phone outright if you get the $25 off per line
