Need help with PC audio..

So I've googled and googled and googled and have found hundreds of threads concerning the same issue I'm having but haven't found a single solution.
I disconnected a set of studio speakers to bring to my uncles house over the weekend. Got them back last night and went to hook them up..no sound. Open up Realtek Audio Manager and it won't recognize them. I've literally done everything I can think of (I even reinstalled a clean copy of windows - been meaning to do it so said what the hell.)
The Mobo is an ASUS sabertooth Z77 and has 5 outputs plus a line in. It also has teh digital output which is what the audio manager is stuck on. It won't even recognize headphones.
Am I fricked on the mobo or is there someone out there who has solved this issue?

When you right click on the speaker icon in the tray and click on playback devices does anything except the digital out show up?

speakers shows up but it's grey and says not plugged in. I have the speakers in the correct location and have tried 2 other sets as well. Even the front panel won't work.

Would getting a sound card fix this issue?

Sorry, I had to step away for awhile. The one time I had that happen it ended up being the cord. If you can get sound via the digital output device the card (or integrated audio) should still be good (overall) but the port might be damaged. Try blowing some canned air in the port, replace the cord (if possible) or try a different audio device (headphones).

The first thing I would try is uninstalling that Realtek crap.

I see you tried other speaker sets as well and those don't work either...
If re-installing drivers (off the top of my head... I think going through the control panel, finding devices and trying to update the drivers), then one other cheap, potential solution, if you don't want to buy and install a new sound card, would be something like:

No idea if it would work or be worth it, but there's a number of sound adapters like this that supposedly bypass the need for a sound card using a usb connection. I suspect quality might suffer somehow, but have no idea. I think buying a new sound card and installing that would be your best bet, but this might be a lazy man's way out if you're entirely uncomfortable opening the case to install a card.

I built the PC so I'm no stranger to installing hardware, just sucks because it was a $500 mobo. Maybe something happened when I pulled the cord out the first time and it shorted the audio portion out or something?

Well that pretty much settles it
Sound card we go
Oh and

Then you got seriously ripped the hell off because I have an Asus Sabertooth Z77 and I payed MAYBE half that.
