Refurbed HP EliteBook $379
I'm gonna slap my SSD in there and it will be rockin'
Looks like there's still stock.
My ASUS was actually doing fine component wise, but the chassis/hinges/bezel were all falling apart. Cheap plastics in the model I got.
The EliteBooks are well built, I've had a lot of experience with them.

I will never buy an HP again/
Batteries don't last for shite and they always overheat.

My HP was great. Envy 17 that was maxed out.
My Dell before that was a gigantic pos.

I know the feeling when you buy something from a company and it gives you problems it's easy to write that company off. I've been an ASUS whore for years, but the cheaply made chassis of this last laptop has put a sour taste in my mouth.
May I ask what line of HP you owned? Because the Pavilions and Probooks are complete shite. I've found the EliteBook and ZBook series to be of excellent quality.

2 Pavillions. both suck.

I bought the 8560p with i7 and dedicated graphics. Put a 480gb ssd and put a 1tb hdd in the dvdrw bay. Love it so far

What's wrong with them? Haven't had one in probably 11 years so I don't know what's different about them now.

They're just cheaply made with cheap materials and poorly designed. If you have to open it to repair, you might as well throw it away.

Dat screen resolution :bleh:

1600x900 is pretty standard for a laptop with that screen size and price range. In fact, most of them will be 1366x768. You don't see much of 1080p until you get closer to the $500 range and up. Even more expensive for 14" and lower at that resolution.

I own that same model. Real nice machine. Built like a tank. I did recently have the lower left mouse button go out, but it's still under warranty, so I'll probably be sending it off soon. Machine is 3.5 years old, and I've got no complaints.
I enjoy the tool-less entry to the back case for component swaps. You can find an expresscard TV tuner in the $15-20 range (with usb IR remote control receiver and remote, in addition to atsc/ntsc tuner + component inputs). I've considered an SSd through the ExpressCard slot or swapping the optical drive for one, but with a 7200rpm sata III drive, it performs well enough (avoiding the swap until I'm out of school in the rare case that they refuse to honor my warranty for tampering with things).
