For decent internet. I say decent because I know hughesnet is junk. Anything else to consider? Is uverse ok?

I was happy with it last year, but just like every other service, it all depends on where you are. Seems that all providers are considered great in one area and absolutely terrible in another.

I have TWC now and am happy with it, but two years ago I literally couldn't watch sports in HD because the channels would just freeze anytime you tried.

I have it. It's all right. Not bad but not awesome IMO.

Having said that, it will be orgasmic compared to any of the crappy alternatives you will have in the sticks.

This. It's all relative. Compared to a fast cable broadband connection with low latency, u-verse kind of sucks. But compared to satellite it's a gift from god.

I'm on a boat in the gulf and we have kvh and the boat crew guys have Hughes, same package and supposedly same speeds and Hughes way outperforms ours. Hughes net seems pretty solid to me.

I feel bad for anyone whose internet options are so limited that they consider Hughes to be solid. It's the same situation as my parents. They only have satellite choices and are enjoying the hot garbage that is hughesnet.

Uverse is horrible in my area. Daily outages lasting from minutes to hours. Seems to be worse in midafternoon for whatever reason. A technician told me the modems are designed for fiber and don't handle the noise of copper wire well. The problem is if your house is in a rural area or more than ten years old, the signal probably makes the last part of the journey to your home over copper.

When it does work, I have no complaints.

I've heard some good excuses from Uverse techs, but this may be the best. 90%+ of Uverse customers are on copper. The equipment was absolutely made for copper. Your issues are with the cabling, either in your home or in AT&T's plant. The age of your house makes no difference. The age of your cable does. If the installing tech did his job, it would work fine.

Yep, need to bury new copper, simple as that. One positive thing I can say about U-verse is that I never had an outage in the 2+ years I had it. The installer put down new copper. It was surprisingly reliable given that I was at the threshold of even being eligible. Really far from the VRAD, only eligible for 18mbps, stuck on ADSL2+ so no pair bonding.
